Lots of summer events
planned in Centralia

CENTRALIA CORRESPONDENT
CENTRALIA - On Sun., May 7, Rev. Michelle Down
led Sunday worship services at Centralia and Zion West
United Churches. She lit the Christ candle and led the
call to worship.
The opening hymn, played by organist Marjorie Johns,
was "As Comes the Breath of Spring".
Following prayers, the choir sang "Whisper a Prayer".
Rev. Michelle thanked the choir and Marjorie for sharing
their musical talents.
Rev. Michelle invited the children to the front of the
church to participate in the children's story time. They
discussed love and how to show love to special people in
our lives every day. Rev. Michelle introduced Taryn Fox,
her son Aiden, and her new son, Aaron, who was only
one week old.
Following the prayer, the children went downstairs for
Sunday school.
Rev. Michelle read the Epistle lesson from 1 John 4:7-
21 and the Gospel lesson from John 15:1-8.
Everyone joined in singing the hymn "God of the
Farmlands". Rev. Michelle's sermon was entitled
"Spring Pruning"
There were several announcements about a variety of
people and activities. Rev. Michelle welcomed Rev. Paul
Ross and his wife to worship. She announced that next
Sunday is Mother's Day, and there will be two Baptisms
at Zion West. Everyone is invited to attend.
Congratulations to Fay and Larry Skinner on the occa-
sion of their wedding anniversary.
Prayers were offered for several individuals who are
facing health issues.
Mary Peterson provided additional information about
the plant sale. Everyone is invited to order their patio
pots and hanging baskets which are grown and supplied
by Huron Ridge Acres in Zurich. Hanging baskets
include New Guinea Impatiens in red, pink, or purple,
and trailing Petunias in red, pink, purple, and blue. The
patio pots include a variety of plants. The cost for each is
$16. Plants should be pre -ordered from Fay Skinner at
229-6304 or Mary Peterson at 228-6992 by Sun., May
14. They'll be available for pickup at the yard sale on
May 27.
The Centralia United Church Women are hosting their
annual yard and bake sale on Sat., May 27, from 8 a.m.
to 12 p.m. Congregation members are invited to donate
"treasures" and baked goods. Volunteers would be
appreciated for help on Friday at 1 p.m. and starting
Saturday morning at 7 a.m.
Conference Sunday will be held on May 28. There will
be no morning worship at Zion West or Centralia United
Churches. Everyone is invited to go to Exeter United
Church at 10:30 a.m. or to Mitchell United Church at 2
p.m. for the service of ordination and commissioning.
Following the announcements, Rob Essery read the
"Minute for Mission" and the offering was taken.
Worship closed with the hymn "In Loving Partnership
We Come".

stolen overnight on Maguire Road in North
Middlesex.

used as a prop by magician Peter Mennie during a
show at the school May 2. Mennie performed his
'Fantastic Friends' show at the school as part of

Entertainment for Zurich diners
ZURICH - Zurich diner program has had some great
entertainment, good food and social times with Mother's
Day coming up. During the past weeks the results of draws
made for shamrock flowers and other items on March 15
went to Lottie Grenier; Marie Gelinas; Ursula Regier; Cecelia
Farwell, Jean Gingerich; Albert Deichert; Pearl Heimrich;
Kay Hay Reading by Glena Olcen about history of St Patrich
"What is Green" A reading by Marg Hayter "Irish Wish" and
singing of Irish songs with Glena at the piano. The 50/50
was won by Ken Gingerich.
On March 22 we had the pleasure of listening to Idella
Gabel on the violin and piano And Glena Olcen showed her
Zuni quilt made from 10 different fabrics and Earl Flaxbard
won the 50/50. March 29 was the penny sale with 13 people
taking an item home. We had visitors from the Hensall
retirement home join us for dinner today April 5.
Progressive Euchre was the entertainment with Helen
MacLean winning the 50/50 draw. A fun reading by Glena
Olcen "Retarded Grandparents". April 12 was our Easter
meal with Glena winning the 50/50 draw. Miscellaneous
item draw winners were Sidney Ramer; Carl Finkbeiner;
Marie Whitney; Mary Ducharme; Marj Reichert Reading by
Glena -- "Easter morning". Music by Mary F. Dow &
Murray Christie.
April 19 50/50 was won by Gwen McKellar. Draws for
table flowers to Marj Reichert and Theresa Denomme.
Slide show of a trip to Portjugal by Glena enjoyed by all.
April 26 50/50 was won by Marj Reichert. Flowers to
Helen MacLean. Ursula Regier and Doris Hamilton cele-
brated birthdays in April. Bingo wirmers today were Helen
MacLean; Marj Reichert; Ursula Regier; Ruthanne Flaxbard;
Lottie Grenier; Pearl Heimrich; Earl Flaxbard.
