South Huron Mayor Rob Morley and ABCA representatives Tim Cumming and Matt Redmond were also on hand to both assist and educate the students on the planting of the tree.The Autumn Blaze, donated by the municipality of South Huron was planted on the edge of the school yard.Above from left are Christina Ford,Ann Kallumadyil, Morley, Connor Drager, Hayley Hoffman and Brent Crawford. (pho- tos/Nina Van Lieshout) Comedy show planned on May 13 EXETER - On Sat., May 13 at 7.30 p.m., the day after the closing night of Romeo and Juliet, South Huron District High School will be hosting yet another evening of entertain- ment. Just for Chuckles is the first-ever pro- fessional comedy showcase to be performed at the high school. The show will feature five professional comedians from the Toronto area: Mike McAuley, Jeff Elliot, Colette Kendall, John Markey, and Kristian Reimer. All five of the comedians have been featured in various television and radio productions. Mike McAuley is originally from Bright's Grove, Ontario, on the shores of Lake Huron. After training to be an outreach worker for the deaf, Mike pursued his dream to work in comedy by completing the Post -Graduate Comedy program at Humber College. Mike graduated with honours and later went on to write and produce a comedy demo for Nelvana which was forwarded to Los Angeles. Recently he landed the role of Melissa DiMarco's boss on the TV show "Out There with Melissa DiMarco" on Omni 1. The show airs after David Letterman. John Markey is originally from Calgary, Alberta and began his career in comedy at the prestigious Loose Moose Theatre. Since moving to Toronto, Hensall yard sale on Sat., May 27 By Liz Sangster IIENSALL CORRESPONDENT HENSALL - Carmel Presbyterian Church will be celebrating anniversary service on May 28. Rev Nicholas Vandermey will be the guest minister and will con- duct communion service. Everyone is welcome to attend this special service. At Hensall United Church ser- vice began with welcome and announcements and the passing of the peace. The minister was Les Hills, his message was "So They Could Understand". The organist was Bill Gibson. Helen MacLean was the greeter. Linda Traquair was the reader and can- dle lighter. Lillian Beer looked after the nursery. The ushers were Linda and Jerry Traquair. Service closed with benediction and choral amen. The Hensall Yard Sale will be held on May 27. Lots of entertainment for the month of May EXETER — Throughout the month of April, keyboard musicians were Jean Hodgert and Josie Ryckman. Several draw prizes were won this month. 50-50 draws were won by Ghislaine Wydoogie, Irene Blackwell and Audrey McRoberts. On April 4 we heard about a low vision study out of the University of Western Ontario. For Easter on April 11 we had Alma Davey, Doug and Dorothy Stephens play musical instruments. Lucy Sage had a sing song on April 18 with all of us enjoying old time musical hymns and songs. Maggie Brennan from the Alzheimer's Society spoke. Foot care appointments can be made by contacting 235-0258. The next appointment dates will be May 2 and 16 and June 6 and 20. We have some very interesting entertainment this month. Rev. Sheila Macgregor will be speaking on May 2 on Ethical Wills. On May 9 Rev. Wendy Noble will speak for our Mothers' Day Program. Rev. Popular fish fry in Kirkton By Muriel Lewis GRANTON CORRESPONDENT GRANTON - The annual Fish Fry sponsored by the Kirkton- Woodham Optimists at the Community Centre on Sun., April 30 was very popular as usual. An item in last week's news should have read that George Westman had heart surgery at the University of Alberta Hospital in Edmonton. At the Granton -Wesley United Church on Sun., April 30 Pastor Paul Vollick led the service and the message was entitled "Experience It! Witness It!" The lessons were from Luke 24 and Acts 3. Michelle McBurney lit the Christ Candle. The children's time theme was "Do you know God's people?" The Ministry of music was "Heaven came down and Glory filled my Soul." At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Sun., April 30 Rev. Dalice Sim led the service of morn- ing prayer. Mary Blackler read the lessons. Rev. Alun Thomas gave the sermon meditation about the revelations of Jesus to Mary at the sepulchre on Easter morning. Schwindt will play his whiskey bot- tles on May 16. We end the month with Jim Love and his musical tal- ent on May 23. John has been a regular performer at the Laugh Resort. He has also appeared on the show Truthhorse for Roger's Cable as well as CBC's Metro Morning. Kristian Reimer also hails from Alberta and is known for his quirky comedic charm. Kristian was also trained at the Loose Moose Theatre after attending the Mount Royal College Theatre Conservatory. Additionally, Kristian has appeared on Club 54 and has had his own variety show on. Roger's Cable, "Kristian's Couch Corner." Colette Kendall will be performing a unique and amusing character piece, and Jeff Elliot will round out the troupe with his own brand of humour. The evening promises to be a lot of fun. Tickets are now on sale at South Huron District High School's Main Office (235-0880), Curves for Women in Exeter, and at at the door on the night of the show. Tickets are $15 each and the money raised will be put toward funding extracurriculars at the high school, as well as student scholarships. Baked goods will be on sale during the intermission to raise money for South Huron's campus chapter of Habitat for Humanity and the Formal Committee. See you at the show!
