Last year about 40 walkers raised $4,000 at the Exeter walk for Huron County VON programs The walk kicks off the Canada -wide Hospice Week and Hike for Hospice will be held across the country. Registration for the walk starts at 1:45 p.m. on May 7. Sports therapist Kendra Craig will lead the group through warm-up exercises, while the Exeter Community Band will play at 2 p.m., when the walk starts. As May 7 is also World Laughter Day, yoga instructor Judy Dougall will be on hand to demonstrate `laughter yoga.' Hike for Hospice will go ahead May 7 rain or shine and will run until 4 p.m. "All the money raised stays in the immediate area," says VON bereavement consultant Kim Winbow. Money will help service programs such as Palliative Care Volunteer programs and bereavement services. For pledge sheets, call 235-2510. As an alternative to seeking pledges, walkers can make a donation at the time of the walk. There is no minimum to walk. "We're more about public education," Winbow said. "If people want to come and walk rather than raise money, that's OK, too." There will also be a `dedication wall' at the walk, where those interested can dedicate their walk to a loved one and write their name on a paper butterfly. There will also be activities for children.
