By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD CORRESPONI)IiNT THAMES ROAD - Church Service Some 20 people from Thames Road Elimville Church attended the Annual Worship Service of The Canadian Food Grains Bank South Huron Growing Project on Sunday morning at Exeter United Church. Anne Spivey played the piano before the service commenced. Rev. Paul Ross welcomed everyone and gave the announcements. Araya Grisdale lit the Christ candle and Wendy Noble led in the call to worship respon- sively. Approaching God in prayer was in unison along with the prayer of confession and assurance of pardon. "The Spirit of Life" was sung. Dave Williams of Thames Road Elimville Church told the children a story entitled "The Legend of Indian Corn" which was quite interesting, and led in the Echo Prayer. The chorus of "Give me Oil in my Lamp" was sung while the children went down to Sunday school. Psalm 146 was read respon- sively with Rev. Paul Ross leading. He read from the Old Testament - Deuteronomy 14:17-22. The Sanctuary Singers sang "Galilee" accompanied by Anne Spivey and directed by Bob Robilliard. Wendy Noble read from the New Testament - Luke 3:7-14. Brent Caslick of Centralia introduced the guest speaker Josina Vink of near Mitchell. Josina spoke about her recent trip to Honduras and Nicaragua. She also showed pictures. She gave a very informative talk. Larry Lynn of Thames Road Elimville Church thanked Josina and presented her with an enve- lope. The hymn "Bring Many Names" was sung. Murray Dawson of Thames Road Elimville Church spoke about Our Growing Project hosts, John and Marilyn Pym of Thames Road Elimville Church for 2005 and Bob and Pat Down of Exeter United Church for 2006. Rev. Michelle Down of Centralia and Zion churches gave the prayers of thanks and concern and the offertory prayer. The offering was received. The hymn "She Comes Sailing on the Wind" was sung. Dave Williams pronounced the benediction THAMES ROAD NEWS and prayer before people went downstairs for a chili luncheon. The greeters were Larry Lynn, Ivan Hern, Joan Agnew, and Gordon Jones. Welcome to Josina Vink, David and Kathryn Mayberry; Ontario Resource Coordinators, Canadian Foodgrains Bank. The South Huron Growing Project mem- bers are Centralia - Zion West Pastoral Charge, Thames Road - Elimville United Church and Exeter United Church. Announcements Joint search committee request a congregational meeting on Sun., May 7 fol- lowing the church service to bring forward a name to be called as our minister, start- ing date to be May 15, 2006. A vote will be taken by the members to either accept or decline the issue called. Zone 8 Rally in Dungannon on May 4 By Joan Beierling VARNA CORRESPONDENT VARNA - The folks of Varna and Goshen area extend community condolences to Marnie Walden's family, Pete and Colleen and Brad and Liz. Marnie was laid to rest on a beautiful spring morning, April 22 at the Bayfield Cemetery. Sympathies are also extended to Cameron Davis, family, Sharon and Wayne, and the families of Russell Taylor especially Jean Armstrong. Denise, Zach and Kaitlin Hamill are wel- comed to Varna as they take up residence on the Parr Line. Proud community congratula- tions go out to Dan Keys on completion of a four year Computer Science program at Laurier University. Dan will be attending Althouse College in the fall pursuing a career in teaching. Katrina and Brianne Merrier watch their sister in the limelight once again winning sev- eral dance awards. Congratulations McKayla! Worship for the second Sunday of Easter was at the Goshen Church. Pastor Elly spoke to the children about being the church, and how we work together. She had brought along several props to illustrate the point - single items from pairs, sets or groups. With a little help the children realized that, one shoe, one, glove, one castor, one domino, one playing card etc were of little value on their own. Being part of a church is being part of a faith community. "Where two or three are gathered...." Matthew 20:18 Organist Anna Keys did double duty Sunday as she accompanied Pastor Elly for the wor- ship service at Huronview in the afternoon. But as Anna is a reg- ular volunteer there, the resi- dents are always pleased to see her and enjoy her gifts of music. Stan Lee members who plan to go to the Zone 8 Rally in Dungannon on May 4 with registration at 10 a.m. are reminded that the $7 noon meal is to be paid in advance. Attending members are asked to meet at Marg Hayters at 9:20 am for car pooling. VARNA NEWS Car stolen from Lucan Community Centre LUCAN — A 2003 brown Pontiac SSL was stolen from the Lucan Community Centre park- ing lot on April 15. The license plate number is AKCN583. Spring events planned in Hensall By Liz Sangster HENSALL CORRESPONDI?NT HENSALL -The Hensall Yard Sale will be held on May 27. The Hensall Spring Fair will be held on Sat., June 10. Activities will center around the Bluewater Tug -Of -War competition. There will also be a wide variety of activities, novel- ties and amusements for the whole family. At Hensall United Church the service began with welcome and announcements and the passing of the peace. The minister was Bev Rabbets, Bev's message was "An Example". The organist was Bill Gibson. The greeters were Marj Heemeryck and Ross Riley. Lois Hayter was the reader and candle lighter. Judy Kyle looked after the nursery. The ushers were Glenn and Lois Hayter. Service closed with com- missioning, benediction, and choral amen. At Carmel Presbyterian Church Joyce Pepper was the organist. Tracy Whitson-Bahro was the minister with Harry Smith receiving the offering.
