The sun -tanning season will soon be on us.
Remember that a deep brown tan means that the
skin is putting up a defence against the harmful
radiation of the sun. We've said this before: A
healthy tan is an oxymoron. You can prevent
premature aging and skin cancer with sensible sun exposure.
A new birth control pill will be available sometime this year. It's a
low-dose formula that will be taken once daily every day. The
supposed advantages are suppressed menstrual cycles, reduced
premenstrual symptoms and reduced mood swings. This new
product will help stabilize hormone levels through the month.
Speaking of birth control pills, if you are travelling to a vastly
different time zone (like New Zealand), be sure to keep taking your
pill every 24 hours. For example if you take it at 9 a.m. at home,
continue taking it in New Zealand ata time equivalent to 9 a.m. at
home. It could be bedtime. Adhering to the same schedule will
prevent an unplanned pregnancy.
"Non-compliance" means not taking your medication the way it
was prescribed. It could mean taking the wrong doses or even
simply forgetting to take the medication. A marketing firm in the U.S.
has pegged the cost of this problem as $100 billion US per year due
to hospitalization, complications and disability.
