(photo/Pat Bolen) March important events on calendar HURON SOUTH - Plans and arrangements for the District Annual and the Fall Rally were discussed at the Huron South District Women's Institute Spring Board Meeting on April 4. Marlene Archer, our Area Voting Delegate in her report informed us that 6,000 Teddy Bears that had been donated last September at the Quilt Show in Toronto had been sent to the USA for distribution to Katrina victims. She also noted that clothing and health information had been sent by Women's Institute members to the Far North. A discussion con- cerning the role of Headquarters in Guelph was conducted. Crediton Women's Institute compiled the requirements for the Zurich Fair display. The theme being "The Sesquicentennial of Zurich". The theme for FWIO for 2006- 2007 is "Many Petals Make a Rose". President Jane Dearing gave a report concerning the FWIO Conference 2006 at Fanshawe College in August. Tweedsmuir Curator Dolores Shapton noted that the Huron County Historical Society needs help to find people to fill executive offices. Important dates to remember are: South Huron District Annual May 18 at Grand Bend at 6:30, South Huron District Picnic July 4 host- ed by Hurondale, London Area Tweedsmuir Workshop at Coldstream on Aug., 6 and the Huron County Rally Oct., 2 at Dashwood Community Hall. All Women's Institute members and interested ladies are encouraged to attend these important events. U.C.W. meeting celebrates spring and the resurrection. EXETER — The April meeting of the U.C.W. was held on Tuesday evening in the church basement with 33 ladies present. The Leadership Development Committee were in charge of the meeting. The meeting table had the autographed table cloth on it, and on that was a cross, vase of pussy willows, two ornamental rabbits, plush rabbit in a holder, glass basket of wrapped Easter eggs and a potted Hydrangea. Doris Elford welcomed everyone and gave a reading "Spring Rain". Lorraine Alexander gave a reading "Easter Is The Gift". The ladies sang "When I Survey The Wondrous Cross" accom- panied by the pianist Jean Hodgert. Helen Webber read the scripture John 12:11-14. Doris Elford gave an Easter prayer. Lorraine Alexander and Doris Elford received the offer- ing and Helen Webber gave the offertory prayer. Lorraine Alexander gave a reading "Easter Is a Time to Believe". Doris Elford introduced Marjorie Johns who has been on a trip to the Holy Land. She showed pic- tures and gave a wonder - Winners of the 2006 Huron CountyArt Show HURON COUNTY — The County of Huron and the Huron County Museum are pleased to announce the winners of the 2006 Huron County Art Show. 1st prize - Abandoned - Barbara Grace, Goderich 2nd prize - Maitland Suite, Autumn - Ron Walker, Blyth 3rd prize - Harbour - Madeleine Roske, Goderich Honourable mentions: Varna Abstracted - Tristan Eekhoff, Stephen Township; Bygone - Madeleine Roske, Goderich; The Path Less Traveled - Anne Laviolette, Bayfield; Oil in Oil - Amber Ruttan, Wingham; First Snowfall - Barbara McKnight, Goderich; Winter Corn Rows - Elizabeth Van den Broeck, Goderich. The Viewer's Choice award was Winter Corn Rows by Elizabeth Van den Broeck. The top three winning paintings will become part of the Huron County Art Bank initiated from a bequest from the estate of Susannah Lattimer. The 2006 Huron County Art Show & Sale is on display from April 1 to May 14 at the Huron County Museum. This year's show fea- tures 51 paintings by 28 artists from across the county. The ladies sang "There Is a Green Hill Far Away." Our president Carolyn Johns welcomed everyone and thanked the pro- gramme committee for the meeting. Anne Kernick took the roll call which was answered by an Easter verse or poem. Minutes and correspondence were dealt with. Joan Skinner gave the treasurer's report and heads of the standing committee gave their reports. Grace Pym said the ladies were going to entertain September 27 at the Bluewater Rest Home in Zurich. June 12 is the campsite day at Camp Bimini and a number of churches are having suppers namely Centralia, April 22 and Kirkton, April 26. Everyone repeated the U.C.W. prayer and deli- cious desserts and bever- ages (prepared by Janet Coward, Joan Morgan, Ola Batten, Anne Bray) were partaken of which brought a very enjoyable evening to a close. :gratIuat1Qft' Graduate Congratulations Theresa in completing your Bank Career Training Course at Westervelt and achieving the President Honours Diploma.
