Round up a team for Exeter's June 9-10 Relay for Life
EXETER — The school play is
coming up in early May. I don't
know any solid dates or times yet
(the drama crew is a pretty secretive
bunch), but the play in question is
"Romeo and Juliet." If William
Shakespeare doesn't get you excited,
not much will.
For example, I was going to go to
the movies last night, but I opted
instead to read some "King Lear."
My popularity has spiralled, but it's
Many worthy
of award
I am the Kangaroo and I speak for
the tax dollar
with which you have been on a
spending spree.
While there are those that will
holler
others are grinning with glee.
You spend it here and you spend it
there
But you do not seem to be getting
anywhere.
Then the Counci-Lor spoke up as
he stood on his stump
and he said kangaroo you lookee
here chump:
A study is what we are make'n
and a study is what we need.
You can use them for bylaws that
are loaded with fees.
You can use them for shelf liners
and wipes for your lou.
You can take them to parties for a
comment or two.
You can use them for this, you can
use them for that.
It can even be used for litter for a
very large cat.
It can do things that you really
can't glean.
It can even sop up oil and make
soil really clean.
Our council on April 10 nominated
one of our citizens, Jim Bearss, for a
federally sponsored award. I per-
sonally applaud the nomination by
council. I would have voted for him
myself. He has spent countless
unpaid hours working on behalf of
this community. But ... this is just
the type of thing that could be a
community builder. There are
countless people in this municipality
who likely feel others are just as
deserving. In this age of communi-
cation, would it be so difficult to post
a question on the website, post the
question in local papers and televi-
sion, and post the question in the
municipal office for everyone in the
community to have their say? There
are many in this community who
work tirelessly for the greater good.
Being recognized by their peers
would reinforce their commitment.
There are a number of individuals
who are fed up with the status quo
in South Huron. To date two infor-
mal and one meeting at council
were well attended, more are
planned. If anyone else is interested
in becoming involved and affecting
change in this community (as well
as having a little fun) please contact
Dean at hurcon@cabletv.on.ca or
Wally Fydenchuk at wpf13@hot-
mail.com for information on the
next meeting.

totally worth it. Shakespeare is just
that good.
But I suppose the plays of old BM
aren't for everyone. If you're in the
mood to laugh rather than cry, there
are some pro comedians
stopping by our school May
13. I'm not one of them, but
I'm sure they're just as good
as me, impossible as that may
seem. The show starts at 7:30
p.m. I'll be sure to let you
know when tickets come on
sale.
Another completely sweet
event on the horizon is the
Relay for Life. This event rais-
es money for the Canadian
Cancer Society and is hap-
pening June 9 - 10. Registration
forms are available in the school
office. If you have any questions or
simply need more information, call
235-0880. This is a community
event, so round up a team.
And lastly, don't forget
about the Cabaret on
Saturday and Sunday. The
former starts at 7 p.m.,
while the latter is at 2 p.m.
Admission is $5. That is,
without doubt, the deal of
the century. Only a crazy
hippie would purposely
miss out on this. You don't
want to be a crazy hippie,
do you? Peer pressure
aside, it's going to be an
excellent show. Highly rec-
ommended.

Steckle comments on agriculture
OTTAWA — The following remarks in the first
Question Period of the 39th Parliament of Canada
were made by Paul Steckle, Member of Parliament
for Huron -Bruce and Associate Liberal Agriculture
Critic.
"...Yesterday's Throne Speech, outlining the gov-
ernment's priorities, contained 2449 words.
Agriculture, Canada's second largest industry, was
allocated a meagre 72.
That constitutes a paltry three per cent of the gov-
ernment's focus and that level was only attained
when pooled with Aquaculture.
Clearly, three per cent is unacceptable.
Agriculture was already excluded from the Prime
Minister's five top priorities list and now it has been
relegated to less than three per cent of the total
agenda.
Our farmers are in dire straits and they need our
help. To survive, farmers need more than three per
cent of this government's attention.
