EXETER — The Ontario champi-
onships of the Great Canadian
Geography Challenge were held over
the weekend with a South Huron
District High School student compet-
ing for the first time.
SHDHS Grade 9 student Patrick
Gehan, who said he always had an
interest in geography, qualified after
a series of exams at the school.
At the competition in Toronto,
Gehan placed 12th out of 55 partici-
pants and said it was a great experi-
ence he will always remember.

Easter in the Park

EXETER - `Eggcitement' is in
the air...it's Easter time again!
On April 15, local families are
invited to take part in the sev-
enth annual Easter in the Park
event at Morrison Dam
Conservation Area. This giant
Easter egg hunt will begin at 11
a.m. and is expected to bring out
more than 200 participants.
Participants will be looking for
coloured eggs hidden around the
conservation area, one conces-
sion east of Exeter. Children five
and under, 6-9 and 10-12 years
of age will be looking in differ-
ent areas. The eggs can then be
handed in at the Ausable
Bayfield Conservation Authority
Administration Centre for
prizes.
Parents or guardians interest-
ed in having their children take
part in the event, can register at
the ABCA administration office
at the Morrison Dam
Conservation Area from 8:30
a.m. - 4:30 p.m. or at Unusual
Finds in Exeter. A $2 registra-
tion fee for each individual will
be used towards Conservation
Education Programs. The dead-
line for registration is

The challenge is a national student
competition for students across Canada
to test their knowledge at the school,
provincial, national and international lev-
els.
More than 63,500 students from 385
Ontario schoolz participated in this year's
challenge with over 150,000 students in
906 schools across Canada taking part.
The national challenge
will be held May 13 with
students linked up online
across the country with
parents, family and friends
able to follow the competi-
tion through the challenge
website at www.geochal-
lenge. ca.
The international chal-
lenge will be held in 2007.
Organized by the National
Geographic Society of
Washington, D.C., this
international geography
competition is held every
two years.
Canada has participated
in every international com-
petition since 1995 and has
done well, winning bronze in 1995, gold
in 1997, silver in 1999 and 2001 and
bronze in 2005.
Gehan was one of 55 students across
the province at the competition
"We're beyond proud," said Park, and
despite his knowledge of worldwide
geography, Gehan said his favourite
place remains Canada.
