Easter services this weekend at Centralia United Church
By Mary Peterson
CENTRALIA CORRESPONDENT
CENTRALIA - On Sun., April 9, Rev. Michelle Down
led Palm Sunday worship services at Centralia and
Zion West United Churches. She lit the Christ Candle
and led the Call to Worship.
Rev. Michelle lit memorial candles in thankfulness
for the lives of Ben Fisher and Clif Jaques. Prayers and
sympathy are extended to the families of these two
gentlemen who recently passed away. The beautiful
flowers at the front of the church were placed in mem-
ory of Ben Fisher.
The opening hymn, played by organist Marjorie
Johns, was "All Glory Laud and Honour".
Following prayers, the choir sang "He Came Riding
On A Donkey". Rev. Michelle thanked the choir and
Marjorie for sharing their musical talents.
Rev. Michelle invited the children and their fathers to
the front of the church to partici-
pate in the Children's Story Time.
They discussed the uniqueness of
Palm Sunday and why the people
had all gathered to watch Jesus
riding on a donkey. Then she asked
the fathers to be donkeys for their
children, who rode them while
everyone waved palm branches for
the parade. Thanks to all the
fathers for being good sports!
Everyone joined in the hymn
"Hosanna, Loud Hosanna", and the
children went downstairs for
Sunday School.
Rev. Michelle read the Epistle
Lesson from Philippians 2:5-11 and
the Gospel Lesson from Mark 11:1-
11.
Her sermon was entitled "Change
My Attitude and You Will Change
My Life". It was the story of a taxi
driver who picked up an elderly
woman late one night at her home.
They shared a special few hours
driving around the city where she
related memories of wonderful
times in her life. Following the
drive, the taxi driver took the
women to a hospice where she
would be cared for as she became
increasingly ill and eventually died.
Lois Wilson sang a beautiful solo
entitled "Open the Gates To the
Temple", accompanied by Marjorie
Johns on the piano. Rev. Michelle
thanked Lois and Marjorie for their
lovely music.
Madalene Tasko read the "Minute
for Mission" about Safe Homes for
Youth in London, Ontario, which
