McMaster said it will take until mid-July to get his committee set up, after which surveys will follow. Surveys in the agricultural sector probably won't get done until December because farmers will be busy in the meantime. McMaster said recommended policies should come out of the process and he isn't sure if there will be additional costs down the road. He added part of the project will involve getting South Huron on a govern- ment -run website that markets communities to the world. South Huron Mayor Rob Morley said the project includes all of South Huron and its economic sectors and he's glad agriculture is included. He said it doesn't conflict with the economic development efforts of the Warden's Task Force. "This is certainly a step forward, no question," Morley added, saying business retention is needed. Morley commended McMaster and the Chamber of Commerce for their movement on the plan. Council unanimously supported the project. Crediton's Wally Fydenchuk questioned the expense of the project ($65,000), wondering why the communi- ty just couldn't have public meetings to discuss the issues businesses have. Later in the meeting, he said he's "all for the Chamber," but he has a problem with paying for administration and gets upset when he sees money being spent on studies. He again spoke hi favour of holding a series of public meetings. "You want to know the truth?" Urlin asked. "Nobody will show up." Oke said public meetings can be held, "but what do you end up with?" He said communities all over Ontario are using the `Business Retention and Expansion Program' and it will achieve things that a series of public meetings wouldn't. Expenses for the project include $35,000 for office and wages, $10,000 for professional development, $7,000 for survey costs, forms, copies and other mis- cellaneous expenses, $5,000 for data equipment, entry and analysis, $5,000 for meeting expenses and $1,500 each for project co-ordinator fees and travel expenses. A professional will be involved in the study, Meeting cancelled VARNA — Monday night's Bluewater council meeting was cancelled after a medical emergency with one of the councillors. Clerk administrator Janisse Zimmerman said Bayfield ward coun. Dave Johnson was resting com- fortably on Tuesday after collapsing during the meet- ing. Monday night's meeting will be continued April 18 at 6 p.m, except for the Joe Durand planning applica- tions. The Durand planning applications will be on the agenda of the May 8 regular council meeting which will start at 5:30 p.m. with the Durand applications being the first thing on the agenda. REGIONAL WRAP UP • Goderich safety blitz GODERICH — Ministry of Transportation (MTO) inspectors and Huron OPP conducted a safety blitz in Goderich recently, pulling vehicles off the road. According to the Goderich Signal -Star, 31 commer- cial trucks were inspected in front of the Suncoast Mall. Eighteen vehicles were taken out of service for vari- ous safety violations. Six sets of license plates were seized from unsafe vehicles and 19 charges were laid. MTO spokesperson, Bob Nichols says the safety blitz helps ensure both mechanical and driver fitness, proper driver's license and documentation. Routine patrols are conducted a couple of times a year throughout Huron County. Youths support park BLYTH — Several Blyth and area youths attended the Blyth and area youth park committee monthly meeting, according to the Citizen. Deadlines are approaching and plans are being finalized for the skate park. The youths are raising $6,000 for extensive renova- tions. Health Team coming Continued from front page Mitchell says by creating Family Health Teams in this area it allows others, more specifically doctors, to have more time for patients. "Almost this whole riding is underserviced," says Mitchell. The first application for organizing a Family Health Team for Bluewater was submitted in 2003, according to Mitchell and she says this is just the beginning. Dr. Peter Englert of the Grand Bend Community Centre and who also works at the Hensall Medical Centre says this will take some time to organize. Englert, part of the Ontario Medical Association and chairperson of the Ontario Region of the Society of Rural Physicians of Canada says he has been busy meeting with representatives around the Bluewater area, assisting in determining the specific needs of the community. A new Bluewater Family Health Team will be created, part of the 50 new Family Health Teams announced by the McGuinty government recently.Above from left are executive director Jane Falconer, chairperson of the board of directors from the Grand Bend Area Community Health Centre David Bannister, Huron - Bruce MPP Carol Mitchell and Dr. Peter Englert, also of the Grand Bend Community Health Centre.
