(photos/Pat Bolen) EXETER — After a slow start to their playoff run, the South Huron Midget AEs rebounded to make a run for the champi- onship which ended on Sunday with a 3- 1 win over the Highland Storm to clinch the OMHA All -Ontario title. South Huron coach Paul Overholt said the team started its round robin play with two losses against Forest and Petrolia before winning two games to recover. "We could have been out really easily," said Overholt who said the team didn't do anything differently after the losses, "we just stepped up." The Sabres then went on a run defeat- ing Petrolia three straight with scores of 3-2, 5-1 and 8-2 before going into the semi-finals against Twin Centre. South Huron again swept the series with 3-1, 5-2 and 4-2 wins to advance to the finals. They won the first two games of the series 5-2 and 1-0 in overtime and were looking to clinch the title on Saturday but came out on the short end of a 3-0 score. With Highland looking to tie the series on Sunday the Sabres had some penalty trouble early. But the South Huron penalty killers held off the Highland power play with goalie Mac Potter making several key saves before Blair Parsons scored for a 1- 0 South Huron lead. South Huron was on the penalty kill again later with a two-man advantage for Highland but the turning point in the game was late in the third. With a five minute Storm power play and the Sabres nursing a 2-0 lead, Highland was only able to get one goal before the Sabres fired the winner into the empty net to seal the win and the championship. "Everything was against us for a while there," said Overholt. He added what made the difference was that "everyone just came to play. When we started I told them, `no one remembers the first 15 games, it's the last 10 that makes a difference."'
