Beta Sigma Phi news South Huron Fun Night has great turnout
EXETER — Beta Sigma
Phi was held at the home
of Maida Gaiser. She
introduced the guest
speaker, Karen Brand,
who spoke about her
experience with kidney
disease.
Her kidneys shut down
while she was on vacation
in Mexico five years ago.
She was transferred to a
hospital in Arizona where
they had the proper equip-
ment and medical services
to deal with her condition
as kidney failure effects
other organs. Later she
was returned to London
for further treatment.
Eventually she chose to
be on the Continuous
Cycling Peritoneal Dialysis.
This is done usually at
night for eight to 10 hours
with a small machine
called an automatic cycler
which performed
exchanges while she slept.
By doing the dialysis at
home it gave her more
freedom and control when
to do the dialysis and
greatly improved her qual-
ity of life. She also had to
observe a strict diet.
About 1 1/2 years ago
Karen received a kidney
transplant. It was a suc-
cess and now she no
longer has to diet but must
take rejection medication.
She is now a volunteer and
strong supporter of the
Kidney Foundation of
Canada which is working
to help people prevent kid-
ney disease and to
improve the organ dona-
tion rate in Canada. June
Essery thanked her.
President Bev Delbridge
called the business meet-
ing to order. The secre-
tary and treasurer reports
were given. Discussion
was held on the upcoming
Daffodil and Founders Day
events. A lovely lunch was
served by the hostess and
Essery.
The chapter met at
Upstairs Hansen's on
March 21 with Elaine
Bogart and Pat Paterson
as hostesses. The meeting
began with Bev Delbridge
conducting the business.
Members were reminded
that Daffodil Day is March
31 with all proceeds going
to Huron Perth Cancer
Society, and we will be
working out of Edward
Jones Investments. The
daffodils will be selling for
$6 a bunch.
An election of officers
was held and they are:
Pat Patterson - president;
Ada Dinney - vice presi-
dent; Lynda Deelstra - sec-
retary; Marian Rider -
treasurer.
A silent auction with a
large variety of items
available to choose from
was held and proved to be
very successful. The
meeting closed with a deli-
cious refreshment served
by the hostesses.

HENSALL — Fun and
Fitness had everyone off to
a good start Monday
morning when residents
met in the sunroom for
their workout that stimu-
lates body and mind. The
range of motion exercises
are geared to maintain or
improve joint mobility and
the games called "Mental
Aerobics" help us all to
work at developing a more
agile brain. In the after-
noon bingo was sponsored
by the Hensall Legion who
provided prizes and assis-
tance for Residents. Lori
Burt Registered Massage
Therapist provided her
service to several residents
throughout the day.
Rue Brenner of Faith
Tabernacle in Centralia
led worship Tuesday after-
noon for residents. She
shared her personal faith
journey with residents and
spent time following the
service with those wishing
to speak with her.
Wednesday afternoon
volunteer Marg Cole orga-
nized a group of euchre
enthusiasts for an enjoy-
able afternoon of their
favourite game.
March birthdays were
celebrated on Thursday
following the Seniors
Dining program. Marie
Flynn and The Huron
Strings provided the musi-
cal entertainment that
drew a good crowd to the
dance floor throughout the
evening. Birthday greet-
ings to Virginia Klopp,
Marjorie Carey, Maria
Roobal, Beth Knox,
Winnifred Homuth,
Adelaide Young and Bill
Osmond Sr. Greetings
were given to birthday cel-
ebrants that are now in
the retirement residence
"Over 90 Club". We are so
thankful for the many
family members and
friends that joined resi-
dents for the evening.
Retirement residents
welcomed a special visitor
Friday afternoon when
Paul Steckle M.P. spent
time speaking with them
in their lounge over coffee
and refreshments. The
visit was precipitated by a
request made during the
residents' monthly
Operations Group meeting.
An invitation was extend-
ed to Mr. Steckle and he
graciously accepted.
Residents commented that
his talk was inspiring and
they appreciated his
thoughtful, respectful
answers to their questions.

South Huron District High
School held a fun night March 23.
There were many activities such
as a fun house, karaoke, a
Gladiator's knock off game and a
station where many people
enjoyed dressing up in a velcro
suit and jumping into a velcro
wall. Above from left are

combines the charm of a cottage with the convenience of a one -storey rancher, providing all the amenities required by a contemporary family. Entering
the angled foyer, a formal dining room is to the left, with a doorway to the kitchen, and a coat closet is situated directly ahead, for guests' convenience.
The great room, separated from the foyer by a half -wall, features a large fireplace. The great room flows into the kitchen area and into a bayed -out
nook, ideal for breakfast and casual meals. Working in this kitchen, the cook will never feel isolated, thanks to the open plan. A window over the sink
