Wednesday, March 29, 2006 Exeter Times—Advocate 11 Upcoming U.C.W. meeting New items for fire department April 11 has Easter Roll Call By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT THAMES ROAD - Mr. Dave Williams was in charge of the Fourth Sunday of Lent church service on Sunday morning. Megan Pavkeje lit the Christ candle. Robin McKnight led in the Call to Worship respon- sively. Megan Pavkeje led in the gath- ering prayer responsively. Dave gave the Prayer of Confession and Hope and Assurance of God's grace and love. Everyone read the Affirmation of our Faith "A New Creed". Everyone sang the children's hymn "Jesus Bids us Shine" and Dave shared the story "The Legend of the Sand Dollar" which was really interesting. The choir sang accompanied by the organist Jean Hodgert. The hymn of praise "Jesus Keep me Near the Cross" was sung. Agnes Bray and Beatrice Dawson received the offering and also were the greeters. Dave gave the com- missioning and pronounced the Benediction and everyone sang the closing cho- rus. ANNOUNCE- MENTS Don't forget your item for the Food Bank next Sunday and also to turn your clock one hour ahead. Church Council is asking for a volunteer to be a Presbytery Rep. The steward- ship committee is organizing a visitation to take place during the month of April, to share the life and work of our church. PERSONALS Quite a num- ber of people from this area called at the Hopper - Hockey www. thecentreforemploymentandlearning.ca Funeral Home, Exeter to pay their respect to the late Virginia Pack who passed away recently and also attended her funeral on Monday. Sympathy is extended to her daughter Ruth Anne and son in law Doug Osgood and family Brenna and Ian. After the service they returned to Thames Road Elimville Church for lunch and fellowship. Many people from this area attended the open house on Saturday after- noon in honour of the 50th Wedding Anniversary of Gordon and Shirley Ford at the Exeter Legion. Congratulations and best wishes Gordon and Shirley! The ladies of the U.C.W. catered to the banquet for the Friendship Lodge of Exeter at Kirkton Woodham Community to some 130 people on Saturday evening. The Exeter Fire Department recently purchased two new items for the station, a rescue cart and cutters.The rescue cart, costing $ 1,500, is designed for trail use, like the MacNaughton trail in Exeter. It allows two firefighters to rescue a person more easily when an incident occurs on a trail, which has happened in Exeter before.The cutters, costing $4,500, will be used for automobile extraction. The cutters used previously by the depart- ment were 20 years old. (photo/Nina Van Lieshout) Church organist releases CD By Muriel Lewis GRANTON CORRESPONDENT GRANTON - The chicken barbecue spon- sored by the Granton Wesley United Church at the Kirkton-Woodham Community Centre on Sun., March 26 was well attended. The Lenten Luncheon was held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church hall near Lucan on Wed., March 22. Rev. Kathy Wreford was the speaker continuing with the theme of the `Return of the Prodigal Son', focusing on the older son. At the Granton Wesley United Church on Sun., March 26 Pastor Paul Vollick led the service and the message was entitled `Sorry, Try Again'. The lessons were from John 3 and Ephesians 2. The Christ Candle was lit by a visitor, Aliesha Sawyer. The Ministry of Music was entitled `Amazing Grace'. The theme of the children's time was 'How much does it cost?'. The organist Shirley Mullenix has a CD out of her music which is for sale. At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Sun., March 26 (Lent 4) Rev. Dalice Sim celebrated the Holy Eucharist. The mes- sage was about being given new hope through God's Love.
