Radcliffe subdivision raises concerns
LUCAN BIDDULPH — A proposed
subdivision was the main focus
recently at Lucan Biddulph council.
A public meeting was held with
about 20 people attending.
The Radcliffe Plan of Subdivision
and Rezoning which would be built
off of Saintsbury Line, south of the
Lucan Tim Hortons brought several
comments and questions to the floor.
Also on the agenda was the rezon-
ing application submitted by
Lock/Pugh/Benner.
Mike Radcliffe was in attendance,
represented by Brad Bain of Lerners.
Planner Ted Halwa reviewed the
proposed plan of subdivision and
rezoning which includes 42 lots with
the centre `block' containing two
four -unit single family residences.
Each unit is about 1,200 square
feet with two car garages.
Halwa suggested the committee
and council look into a pedestrian
walkway between Street "B" and
Nicoline via the 66' road allowance.
Bain, representing the developer
says they are not particularly in
favour of the pedestrian walkway as
they see too many potential prob-
lems with it including lighting, priva-
cy and liability.
Brian Munro, a neighbour, opposes
the pedestrian walkway idea.
Other members of the gallery
agreed.
Concerns were also raised regard-
ing stormwater management since a
lot of water collects on the subject
property.
Neighbour Richard Plokaar was
one of them, speaking of stormwater
management concerns, that the site
will be too congested and that down-
wind smoke will impact his property
with 42 more wood burning fire-
places or chimneys.
Several people said they would like
fencing put up separating the devel-
opment from their property.
SH novice champs
EXETER — The South Huron Sabres local
league #1 team travelled to Lambeth March
19 and came home as Lambton Middlesex
league champions (division C).
In seven of eight playoff games, the Novice
team came out on top.
Superb goaltending by Paige Lightfoot and
Owen Kuranyi led the team culminating in a
4-0 shutout for Kuranyi in the final game.
The teams' defensive pairings of Ryan
Neeb/Denver Homuth, Mitchell Miller/Harrison
Winters and Hayden Bowman/Jared Denotter
crippled the Lambeth offence time and again.
Offensively South Huron had goals in the
series from every single line.
Forwards Jacob Hrudka, Bradley Regier,
Dillon Haist, Josh Stanlake, Nathan McDonald,
Brody Reid and Patrick Medd really notched
up their playmaking, rushing and passing at
every opportunity.
Kean Dwyer had a strong series against
Lambeth when he was able to put his speed on
the breakaway to good use.
Hard work, determination and excellent
teamwork were the keys to this teams success.
Coaches Derrick Leenders, Bill Reid, Mike
Regier and Shannon Hrudka provided the pos-
itive motivation that ensured a well-deserved
league champion for this year's Novice LL #1
team.
Questions were also asked of what
kind of impact the additional traffic
will have on the Saintsbury Line
Main Street intersection, which
already is a difficult area to make a
left hand turn, according to a mem-
ber of the community.
Halwa commented that the density
of the proposal is low at five units
per acre.
Pressure is put on the township to
utilize the best and highest use of the
land.
Durk Vanderwerff planner for
Middlesex County says although they
are technically the approval authori-
ty on issues like the pedestrian walk-
way, the local municipality gives
direction.
Halwa is considering all input from
the public.
A decision will be made by council
soon.

ZURICH — Huron OPP responded to an alarm March 20.
The police arrived at Erbs Country Kitchen on Main Street in
Zurich to find the front glass door had been smashed. Parties
