Two road wins
for MidgetAEs
EXETER — The Midget
AE hockey team traveled
to Haliburton this past
weekend to start their
OMHA championship final
series against the local
Highland Storm team.
In game one South
Huron came away with a
5-2 win.
Despite a few opening
game jitters and a slow
start that saw South Huron
down 2-0 in the first peri-
od, the kids rallied to move
within one late in the peri-
od.
Within seconds of drop-
ping the puck in the sec-
ond the score was tied and
South Huron dominated
the play for the remainder
of the game.
The Storm brought a
physical game to the rink
and the South Huron play-
ers stepped up their play
in response.
Some questionable calls
in the second period saw
South Huron with two
players in the box but the
South Huron defensive
squad controlled the play
and Mac Potter in net
made several key saves.
Anstett led the way
offensively by scoring a hat
trick.
Head coach Jeremy
Geoffrey emphasized
"we're playing a good
team that went to the
International Silver Stick
finals. Our team play was
slow at the start and got
better but still has room
for improvement."
In game two South
Huron edged Haliburton 1-
0 in overtime.
In a goaltenders duel to
the end, South Huron
could not capitalize despite
outshooting Haliburton
and with 40 seconds left in
the game, Potter had to
make a couple of great
saves to keep the game
tied.
With the game scoreless
after regulation time,
Mitch Overholt started the
play deep in the South
Huron end, passing up to
Anstett.
With a pass in front of
the net, Nick Jeffrey buried
the puck in the net to
clinch the win.
Geoffrey said "We played
really well, but the Storm's
goalie kept them in the
game. Over all, we moved
the puck well. A key save
by Potter on a breakaway
in overtime gave us the
chance to win."
South Huron thanks the
Highland Storm Minor
Hockey association for
their hospitality.
Game three is scheduled
for Saturday at 4 p.m in
the Stephen Arena with
game four (if necessary )
scheduled to be played in
Exeter on Sunday at 2:30
p.m.
