Midgets rally to tie 6-6
EXETER — The
South Huron Midget
'A' team started the
OMHA finals against
Cambellford March
18 in Exeter.
The visitors led 2-0
with 57 seconds left
in the game when
David Reschke
scored assisted by
Kurt Van Osch.
Campbellford made
it 3-1 with an empty
net goal with 27 sec-
onds left but South
Huron again scored
from Reschke and
David Geoffrey with
12 seconds left.
The Sabres had
many chances in the
final seconds but
could not put it in the
net.
The midgets trav-
elled to Campbellford
on Sunday and the
home team went
ahead 1-0 16 seconds
into the game and
were up 2-0 just four
minutes in.
But Kurt Van Osch
scored with five min-
utes left in the first
assisted by Chad
Hackett before
Hackett tied it in the
second with an assist

scored three goals in
five minutes for a 5-2
lead.
But a goal from
Muirhead two min-
utes into the third
period assisted by
Reschke and Geoffrey
made it 5-3.
Campbellford again
answered quickly
with a goal one
minute later.
But with seven min-
utes left South Huron
turned on some
speed and Muirhead
scored a shorthanded
goal.
Two minutes later
Reschke scored
assisted by Muirhead
and Brent Johns.
Hensall eliminated
IIENSALL — The Hensall Sherwoods were elimi-
nated from the WOAA playoffs last week with a 4-3
game seven loss to the Shelburne Muskies March 21
in Shelburne.
The Muskies have advanced to face the Elora
Rocks and are tied at one game apiece while
Durham leads Lucknow 2-0 in the other semifinal
Irish take 1-0
lead on Trojans
LUCAN — The Lucan
Irish kept their perfect
playoff record intact in
game one of their Yeck
conference series against
the Thamesford
Trojans Sunday
night in
Thamesford.
The Irish have
not lost a game in
the playoffs after
sweeping the
Exeter Hawks
and North
Middlesex Stars
and now have a
9-0 record in the Jeff S
playoffs after a 4-
1 win over the Trojans.
On the McConnell side
Delhi eliminated
Hagersville in seven
games and will face
Wellesley which eliminat-
ed Langton in five games.
The Irish got the only
goal of the first period
from Jeff Silver before the
teams fired four goals in
the second, with the Irish
outscoring the Trojans 3-
1.
A shorthanded goal
from Aaron Whitcomb
proved to be the
winner for the
Irish with Silver
adding his second
of the game
before Jeff
McLean sealed
the 4-1 win with a
goal in the dying
seconds of the
period.
Justin Harburn
ilver fired the lone goal
of the game for
the Trojans.
The series will resume
tonight (Wednesday) in
Lucan at 7:45 p.m. with
game three in
Thamesford Friday night
with the time yet to be
decided.
Game four will be in
Lucan at 8:30 p.m.
Rescke tied it with a
minute left with some
help from Hackett to
send it to overtime.
Despite chances for
both teams neither
could score.
Game three of the
series is March 31 in
Exeter at 8 p.m.

Pletches bound for New Zealand

LUCAN — Two Lucan brothers
will be representing Canada on the
rugby pitch next month on a tour of
New Zealand with the Canada 'A'
squad.
Mike and Dan Pletch will leave
April 12 on the tour which will last
until the end of the month.
The 22 -year-old brothers are
both McMaster students and helped
their Marauders team to an unde-
feated season before McMaster
won its third championship in four
years with a 15-13 win over the
Western Mustangs.
Canada 'A' will play four games in
New Zealand with the first two in
Wellington, April 19 and 22.
Canada then moves across the
Cook Straits to the South Island for
a game April 26 and finishes off on
the North Island with a game April
28.
The tour is preparation for a busy
2006 that will include the Churchill
Cup, the North America Four and
Rugby World Cup qualifying games
against the USA and Barbados.
