Biddulph Central's Grade 6 class, with Mrs. Barnett and Mrs. Kokas, recently participated in
three hands-on workshops at Museum London. This program combined literacy and art to
provide a rich exploration of culture and self, while building self-esteem and fostering cre-
ativity.Workshops included: community sculpture and soapstone, collage and printmaking
and painting a community artwork. In addition, community members were invited to the
opening show and reception at Museum London on March 6. Final artworks will be on
display at Biddulph Central during the month of March. Pictured in front from left are Marc
Cousineau, Benton Hart and Luke Johnson, while in back from left are Michael Brossoit,
Michael Neeb and Tyler McPhee. This is a collaborative effort among many generous com-
munity partners: Museum London, the London District Catholic School Board, the Thames
Valley District School Board and London Life. It is an example of the kind of unique learning
opportunity that museums and schools can create by working together. (photo/submitted)

Volunteer appreciation April 19
HENSALL — Julie Grimminick,
Queensway's Retirement resi-
dence director had a busy Friday
afternoon with the very enjoy-
able task of mixing up fresh
cream, sugar, eggs, milk and
vanilla flavouring to make home-
made ice-cream. There were
innumerable volunteers for the
taste testing with everyone
agreeing that the result was far
superior to anything you could
buy. There was lots of discus-
sion about everyone's favourite
flavours and I have an idea that
the residents will choose to try a
few variations. Glenn
and Peggy
Restemayer gracious-
ly loaned their ice-cream maker
for the project.
Several residents travelled to
the Exeter Library last week and
plan to make good use of their
new library card. Queensway is
fortunate to also have a nice
selection of books and videos in
the resident library. The Hensall
Legion ladies provided assistance
and prizes for bingo Monday
afternoon and will be with us
each Monday afternoon in
March.
Tuesday morning Queensway's
Volunteer Auxiliary met and pre-
viewed March events, offering
assistance at the various pro-
grams where extra help will be
required. Queensway has sched-
uled the Annual Volunteer
Appreciation evening for Wed.,
April 19 at 7 p.m. with music by
Martin Gelinas and Band. It will
be an evening of celebrating vol-
unteers with fun, food, music
and free draws.
Pastor Elly Van Bergen led a
very meaningful Memorial
Service Tuesday afternoon with
residents, volunteers and staff in
attendance as we honoured the
lives of those residents who have
passed away since December.
They were our friends, room-
mates and family and each in
their own way had
an impact on our
lives. Belva and
Carol provided special music for
the service.
Music therapy, massage, crafts,
exercise, euchre and manicures
completed a very full week for
residents.
