HURON — If you can quit smoking for the month of April, you could win a 2006 Honda Civic Hybrid in the Driven to Quit Challenge. The Huron County Health Unit encourages anyone who wants to quit smoking to join this provincewide Challenge by March 31. The challenge is open to all Ontario residents, 19 years of age and older who are daily tobacco users who have smoked cigarettes, cigars or pipes, or have chewed tobacco for at least one year. SIO Prizes also include one of seven Sony 32" smoN Widescreen LCD High Definition televisions. Last year, Huron County resident Ron Herd quit smoking and he won a 2005 Ford Mustang. To join the Driven to Quit Challenge, partici- pants must find a buddy who will support them in their quit attempt. Buddies are eligible to win a prize valued at $250. A buddy must be over 19 and a non-smok- er. "It is not easy to quit smoking, and a buddy provides excellent support and encouragement throughout the quit process," says public health supervisor Linda Stobo. "There has never been a better time to quit smok- ing,"she adds. "There are services available to sup- port those who wish to quit smoking." The Health Unit pro- vides one-to-one stop smoking counselling and group Stop Smoking Programs. Register now for the evening Stop Smoking Program run- ning at the Health Unit office in Clinton from March 15 to April 5. For more help, you can also call the Canadian Cancer Society's Smoker's Helpline at 1-877-513- 5333. It's a free, confiden- tial service that provides support, advice and infor- mation about quitting. ABCA holding March Break day camps EXETER — Are you looking for engaging activities for your chil- dren this March Break? The Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) is providing parents with an alterna- tive this March Break. Children between the ages of five and 10 can register for day camps being held on March 14 and March 16 at the Morrison Dam Education Centre at the Morrison Dam Conservation Area. The March Break Day Camps provide children with the opportu- nity to take part in nature through hiking, snowshoeing, crafts, games and much more. This year, to keep things fresh and exciting for the children, the ABCA is introducing theme days. On March 14, participants will explore the world of Winter Animals. On March 16, there will be "Snow Much Fun." The events will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and staff will be available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for drop off and pick up. LeEach day promises to be full of activities. It's our goal to provide educational, exciting and active programs for youth," said ABCA conservation education specialist Matt Redmond.
