Flag rugby at South Huron District High school
EXETER — Flag rugby players were showing off
their skills Saturday at South Huron District High
School in a clinic intended to introduce the sport
to the area.
Volunteers from several different teams and lev-
els of rugby were on hand to provide instruction
to the rookies including Lucan rugby players Mike
and Dan Pletch, who are both on the Canadian
National team and are going to New Zealand for a
tour in April.
Also helping were University of Western Ontario
players Danielle Jacques and Kat Cureton as well
as Justin Cann and Mac Potter from SHDHS.
Organizer Maggie Smillie said it was a great
start to what she hopes will be a successful sport
in South IIuron.
"We had tremendous support from Mike and
Dan our local internationalists (good luck in New
Zealand). Thank you also to Danielle and Kat
who play at university level as well as Justin and
Mac from the high school who gave excellent
encouragement to all the children who came
along on Saturday.
"This gives us a solid foundation to build on for
our spring and summer programs which
will be announced through the
schools and the Times -Advocate. JO
If there are any children who
would like to see rugby come to
their schools please ask your princi-
pal if it can be added to your
sports program."
