Annual K W Farmers' Club meeting
Canadian children's authors are receiving some exposure this year at Usborne Central School
with the Blue Spruce/Silver Birch/Red Maple reading program, which sees students reading new
books by Canadian authors. Led by principal Gladys Rock, the students, in Grades 1/2 and 3/4
read a collection of books and then chose their favourite, George Elliott's "The BoyWho Loved
Bananas."The program, made possible through a $130 grant from the Foundation for Enriching
Education Perth -Huron, coincides with the school's reading buddies activity, which also involves
students in Grade 7/8. Pictured above are some of the students involved: in front from left, with
their reading mascot, are Emily Hayter, Rebecca Rooseboom,Tobin Fox and Jesse Simpson; in back
are Riley Rooseboom, Jake DenOtter,Andrew Hodgert and Ashlynn Gower. Rock said she hopes
to see the program continue at the school next year. (photo/Scott Nixon)
