EXETER —
The Connect
Centre's new
project co-ordi-
nator says a
number of activ-
ities and oppor-
tunities are
being offered in
the upcoming
months.
Lisa Boyd
started at the
centre in
January.
The Connect
Centre is located
in South Huron
Hospital and run
by Anago
Resources. Boyd
is working on a
government -
funded project
at the centre,
which offers a
number of ser-
vices, work-
shops, recre-
ational and
leisure opportu-
nities. Boyd said
workshops are
either free or
include a small
fee subsidized
by Anago.
She said the
main focus of
the Connect
Centre right now
is two work-
shops — a
Community
Kitchen and
Music Therapy.
The
Community
Kitchen starts
March 15. Boyd
said positions
are now open
for volunteers to
help out.
Anyone inter-
ested can sign
up for
Community
Kitchen, which
will promote
healthy eating
and lifestyles
and will show
participants dif-
ferent cooking
techniques to
make it more
enjoyable.
Participants will
also learn how
to shop and cook
when on a bud-
get.
"We're very
excited about
this," Boyd said,
adding she
hopes the
Community
Kitchen will also
be a social outlet
for those
involved.
Participants
will split the cost
of the food,
make a meal to
eat while they're
at the Connect
Centre and be
able to take
about seven
entrees home.
Throughout,
Boyd said she'll
be promoting
healthy eating.
"Just because
you're on a bud-
get, it doesn't
mean you have
to eat Kraft
Dinner," she
says.

HENSALL —
Men in the
Retirement
Residence start-
ed their week off
with a men's
breakfast club.
Sausage and
eggs were
enjoyed while
they did some
reminiscing.
The morning
chats with coffee
three times a
week in the

dence are well
attended with
this month's
focus being love
stories, siblings
and items we
treasure.
We welcome
community
seniors to join
our fun and fit-
ness group in
the retirement
residence lounge
each Monday,
Wednesday and
Friday at 10:30
a.m. The bene-
fits of this regu-
lar exercise
group keep us
motivated.
Tuesday's
church service
was led by Rev.
Lil Wilton of
Exeter's Caven
Presbyterian
Church.
Following the
church service
to celebrate
Valentines Day,
a social gather-
ing was held
with fruit and
wine. The room
was filled with
ladies wearing
their red hats
and a game was
played with
everyone
attempting to
name as many
songs as they
could with the
word "love".
Music with the
Christian
Reform Singers
was enjoyed in
the evening.
Residents are
preparing for
and upcoming
painting class
after welcoming
a local artist
who introduced
the basics of
painting and the
supplies needed,
while inspiring
everyone to
choose their
subject. On
Friday a unique
taste testing
party was held.
Martin Gelinas
was the featured
music in the

evening for the
Friendship
Friday program.
This was his first
performance
with us and we
hope the first of
many.

Wingham.
Another
upcoming pro-
gram is Music
Therapy, which
starts March 6
and will run
from 2-4 p.m. on
Mondays for $10
per session.
Boyd said
musical therapy
has been known
to benefit those
who are non-
verbal by help-
ing them
express them-
selves — weekly
sessions can
involve drum-
ming, chiming
or bell ringing,
playing rhythm
instruments,
creative move-
ment or dance,
story sharing
and picture
viewing.
Music thera-
pist Lisa Stewart
of Bayfield will
lead the classes.
Other work-
shops offered at
the Connect
Centre include
Stamping and
Scrapping,
Healthy
Relationships,
First Aid and
CPR,
Babysitting,
Applying for
ODSP, the
Canadian
Pension Plan
and Power of
Attorney.
Boyd, who
lives in Clinton,
is also the co-
ordinator of the
Huron Respite
Network. She
welcomes input
from the com-
munity and asks
anyone with
suggestions or
questions to call
the Connect
Centre. She said
the centre tries
to help anyone
who has any
barriers such as
transportation
or cost that may
prevent them
from participat-
ing in programs.
Open for three
years, Boyd says
she wants to
create aware-
ness in the com-
munity about
the Connect
Centre and let
the community
know the centre
has something
to offer every-
body. For more
