Unfortunately, I am not in a good position to respond to the concerns because on most snow days I am not at home to see what's being posted on the A - Channel. My understanding is that they run a notice across the bottom of the screen indi- cating for which counties or school boards there are bus cancellations or delays. In our case, the mes- sage would indi- cate there are cancellation in Huron County or in the Avon Maitland District School Board. However, it is not uncommon for buses to be cancelled in one part of the board while everything is running in another part. Last week is a good case in point. While vir- tually all the schools in the board were closed on Monday, we were open with buses running from Tuesday on, but Goderich area schools can- celled buses on Tuesday and again on Thursday. No doubt the A - Channel posted a notice indicat- ing that buses in Huron County and/or Avon Maitland were cancelled, but viewers would have to go to the A -Channel website to see which schools, in fact, were affected. When we cancel the buses or close schools, I send one notice on behalf of all the South Huron area schools to a number of media outlets. Unfortunately, I have no con- trol over how and when they choose to post the information. The notice is sent to most of the radio sta- tions in London, as well as Wingham and Stratford, and to the A -Channel news room. The message states specifical- ly which schools have 110 buses running and which schools are closed. If parents or stu- dents do not hear South Huron District High School men- tioned, they should assume that the school and buses are running. You can verify this by visiting the AMDSB website at www.yourschoo ls.ca and click- ing on the "School and Bus Cancellations" heading. On days when the stormy weather is widespread, you may need to scroll to the right in the list of school and bus cancel- lations as there is often a sec- ond or third page of notices. I do fmd it somewhat iron- ic, that with all. the communica- tions technology we now have, it is still difficult to distribute accu- rate information on snow days. Maybe we won't have any more for the remain- der of the win- ter. Students will be receiving their Semester One Final Report Cards this week. Parents and stu- dents are asked to take note that final marks have been issued for only those courses that ended in January. The marks and com- ments printed for year-long courses are the same marks and comments from the December Report. The next report for year-long cours- es will be issued just before JEFF REABURN PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE March Break. Students are asked to check the "credit sum- mary" page of the report to ensure that the credits indicated on the report are correct. Any discrepancies should be reported to the Guidance Office. Finally, I would like to remind stu- dents, parents, and the commu- nity of the next School Council Community Forum, which is taking place Feb. 22 at 7 p.m. in the SHDHS Library. The topic for this session is Nutrition and Fitness and fea- tures two well- qualified panel members: Nancy Fisher, a nutrition spe- cialist with the Huron County Health Unit, and Professor Peter Lemon from the Kinesiology Department at UWO. The focus in this session will be on the nutrition and fitness require- ments of teenagers. With all of the emphasis in our society on diets and exercise, and concerns over eating dis- orders, this ses- sion should be of interest to many people. Hopefully, this forum will pro- vide audience members with accurate information on the nutrition and exercise needs of young MuchMusic dance this Thursday EXETER — If you feel like getting your groove on (and who doesn't?), there's a MuchMusic dance hap- pening Thursday. There's some crazy rumour going around that this is happening at the Rec Centre, but it's not true. If you show up at any place other than the high school look- ing to bust some moves, you will be sadly disap- pointed. Tickets are $10 at the door. The dance starts at 7:30 p.m. Feel free to dance with me, I'm a lonely fel- low. In other news, the Time & Talent Auction is taking place at SHDHS March 23. This is an event open to the entire community. Items and services that people donate will be auctioned off and the profit will go towards school events. If you're feeling generous, donation forms can be found in the office. If you're not feeling generous, dona- tion forms can be found in the office anyway. Soon there will be a website to check out for more info. I'll keep you posted on it. And now I have some very sweet upcoming events: Feb. 15 — Girls hockey, Wingham — Junior boys basketball, Wingham — Reach for the Top tournament, Clinton — Midget boys basketball, St. Marys Feb. 16 — MenC immunization day (extra forms available) — Grade 9 science centre field trip Feb. 17 — Boys hockey, Wingham — Boys basketball quarter finals Feb. 20 — Early dismissal Feb. 22 — School Council forum, library, 7-9 p.m. MATT MINE HEW R PANTHE PROFILE R people, and an opportunity to ask any health- related ques- r tions they may have.
