farm
incomes
raised
CANADA - The National
Farmers Union (NFU) wants the
new Conservative government
implementing policies to benefit
family farmers.
President of the NFU Stewart
Wells says the Conservatives must
follow through on the former gov-
ernment's previously- announced
$755 million emergency assistance
to grain and oilseed farmers.
Wells also says the Conservative
campaign, which promises to
replace the Canadian Agriculture
Income Stabilization (CAIS) pro-
gram with two separate plans for
income stabilization and disaster
relief, will be followed closely in the
coming months.
Wells says the Conservative
promise to implement a Green
Cover Crop Program with a com-
pensation fund for farmers facing
severe flood damage could poten-
tially benefit farmers.
