ZURICH — Several thousand residents were in the
dark over the weekend after several inches of snow
blanketed the area, knocking out power to customers.
Hydro One spokesperson Daffyd Roderick said
Monday afternoon 4,600 customers were without
power in the Clinton, Zurich and Grand Bend areas.
Power was also out intermittently throughtout the
area over the weekend.
Roderick said the high winds and heavy snow were
hampering efforts of work crews to repair the damage
caused by the storm.
"We've got a variety of problems," said Roderick,
with lines and poles iced up and then knocked down by
high winds.
"Like everyone else driving around in Ontario today,
it's pretty slow going out there."
Roderick added helicopters were unable to fly which
also slowed down the repair process.
"Normally what we would do when we have a wind-
storm go through...we send the helicopter out and they
can make a pretty quick list of where the problems are
and we can start to sort it out. Right now we've got
folks out there patrolling on snowmobile and on foot.
"Our customers are bearing with us and the impor-
tant thing is they're being patient."
Zurich complex facilities manager Kevin Geoffrey
said between 60-70 people took shelter at the arena
Monday morning after first fmding refuge in the Hay
Telephone office.
Geoffrey said firefighters went house to house in
Zurich between 5 and 9 p.m. looking for residents who
required help, advising them the telephone office was

Huron PatientTransfer Service a new, easy alternative

EXETER — "We are the first patient
transfer service in a rural setting to my
knowledge in Southwestern Ontario,"
says Dean Boyle, owner and operator of
Huron Patient Transfer Service based in
Exeter.
The business began in October after
Boyle, who has been a certified para-
medic for 23 years, saw a significant
need for an alternative for non -emerge
patients.
"Due to emergency patients taking pri-
ority, that left the non -
emerge patients wait-
ing sometimes for
hours," says Boyle.
He took a leave of
absence and began his
company which is
dedicated to offering
the transfer of non -
emerge patients to
their CT scans, MRIs,
x-rays, doctor's appointments and a
large variety of medical situations, says
Boyle.
"I saw it working in
the urban settings and
I wanted to offer the
same opportunity to
the rural communi-
ties," he adds.

Transfer Service runs
