Two wins for Panthers EXETER - The South Huron District High School girls hockey team played their last regular season game Jan. 18 in Clinton against CHSS and came away with a dominant 8-3 win. Coach Heather Strano said the Panthers played strongly and had all lines scoring. She added despite trying some different things in the third period South Huron continued their strong play. In their second game of the day, the Panthers were fired up to play arch rival St. Anne's and in a hard fought game the Panthers pulled out a 5-3 win. The Panthers took charge early against CHSS with six goals in the first period including two each from Emily Sararas and Kelly Cronyn and singles from Brett Sararas and Keri Reschke. The Panthers continued their attack in the second period Kelly Cronyn adding her second and Staci Miller notching one. In the second game of the day for South Huron, St. Anne's scored first which Strano said resulted in the Panthers picking up their intensity and the first line of Emily Sararas, Stewart and Michele Weber has an excellent game. The Panthers got on the board in the second period with two goals from Emily Sararas, who completed her hat trick in the third with Jessica Bickell and Stewart adding one each for the 5-3 win. With South Huron to face St. Anne's in the playoffs which begin at Madill Feb. 15, Strano said the win over St. Anne's was an excellent way to end the season and send a message. South Huron was also represented at the first league all-star game in Stratford Jan. 19 with Stewart, Jenna Phillips and Tanya Stuckless helping Huron to a 4-3 win over Perth. Stewart scored once in regulation and was named the Huron MVP after scoring the winner in a shootout. Strano who was one of the Huron coaches, said it was an excel- lent experience and hopes it becomes an annual event. The next action for the Panthers is the Carter Classic in North York Feb. 7-8.
