HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Times Advocate, 2006-02-01, Page 9Wednesday, February 1, 2006 Exeter Times–Advocate 9 Winter Carnival in Grand Bend GRAND BEND — The annual Grand Bend Winter Carnival will celebrate 20 years starting this weekend with a variety of events for young and old both indoors and outdoors. One of the features of the carnival this year will be the Benguin's ice pavilion just south of Main Street which will be open at 10 a.m. Feb. 4-12. It will have a display of ice carvings by Iceculture as well as a children's play area with a Big Bounce double slide and a snow screen movie night Saturday. Admission to the pavillion is $2. The Benguin parade will begin Saturday at 11 a.m. on Main Street. Other events this weekend are the co-ed snow pitch tournament which goes all day. Participants can regis- ter at the Colonial); the Benguin's poker game, the snow carving competition and the Riverbend Olympics from noon to 8 p.m. • The Oakwood Inn winter golf • tournament will tee off from ' r$1 •I$ 10 a.m to 2 p.m. • • 'AI `' On Sunday there will be a tailgate party at Bikini V • • • • 11,U ! .Bobs at 4 p.m. to cele- “'brate the Super Bowl with a free barbecue while supplies last. Activities for the second weekend of the carnival Feb. 10-12 will kick off Friday night at Grand Bend Public School with a drive in movie night from 6.to 9 p.m. and free snacks, drinks and a movie. On Saturday there is a Lioness euchre tournament at Grand Cove as well as the Gables variety and talent search. The snow pitch and winter golf tournaments will con- tinue and Yuk Yuks comedians will entertain at the Oakwood Inn Saturday night from 8 to 11 p.m. A firefighters breakfast will be held Sunday morning from 8 to 10 a.m., while other events on Sunday include Finnegan's Waiter's race at 2 p.m. For more information on the carnival call the Grand Bend Chamber of Commerce at 238-2001. Bowl for Kids campaign EXETER — The Big Brothers Big Sisters of South Huron (SHBBBS) 26th annual Bowl for Kids campaign is on again at local bowling alleys. This year the goal for the campaign is $21,000 to help support the programs offered by the BBBSSH, which receives no government funding. This year the theme for the event is `Rodeo Days' and bowlers can support the campaign in a number of ways including donations, organizing a team, individual pledges and challenging other businesses. Corporate bowling will be held from Feb. 20 to March 5 at the Zurich and Lucan bowling lanes. Community bowling will be held Feb. 26 from 1 p.m. until 4 in Lucan and March 5 from .1 to 4:30 p.m. in Zurich.
