boys basketball
EXETER — The South
Huron District High
School senior boys bas-
ketball team hosted a
four team tournament
on the weekend.
The Panthers lost
their first game to
Central Huron 55-52.
Tyler Robinson had
13 points followed by
Eric Cosman with nine,
Tyler Knip and J.T.
Knee with eight and
Spencer Baehnisch
with six.
South Huron defeated
Parkhill 63-38 in their
second game with
Robinson scoring 12,
Knip putting down 11
while Baehnisch and
Jeff Thomavongsa had
eight each.
Seth Weber and Roger
Mills each added four
points.
In their third game,
the Panthers surprised
coach Terry O'Rourke
and lost to a good
London Christian team,
51-44 which was a
three-point game with
one minute left.
Baehnisch had 10
points, Robinson had
eight and Knee added
seven while Nate Falk
dropped in seven.
All in all it was an
excellent day and
O'Rourke said the team
showed some nice
improvement with
everyone on the team
making some positive
contributions.
The team was back in
action Jan. 18 and
played an excellent
game but still lost to a
strong Northwestern
team 72-41.
Robinson played a
superb game said
O'Rourke putting in 17
points. Cosman also
played well scoring 10
points. Knip added
eight and Baehnisch
put in four with every
team member making a
positive contribution.
In their second game
of the day, the
Panthers again played
a superb game defeat-
ing St. Annes 59-23.
Robinson had 14 points
followed by J.T. Knee
with 11, Cosman with
10, Knip with eight and
Roger Mills and
Baehnisch with five
each.
All team members
once again contributed
positively and all in all
it was a great day.
The panthers were in
Kincardine on the
weekend.
On Friday, they lost to
Owen Sound West Hill
52-27 after cold shoot-
ing in the second half.
Robinson scored 10
points and Baehnisch
added seven.
On Saturday, the
team came back from a
10 point deficit to
defeat Dorchester 42-
40. Cosman scored the
winning basket on a
drive to the hoop.
Knip had a great
game scoring 17 points
and pulling down 16
rebounds.
Robinson added 10
and Cosman finished
with nine points. Weber
also added seven.
In the consolation
final the team again fell
behind 12-0 to
Woodland Christian
from Kitchener but bat-
tled back and narrowly
lost 29-26. Robinson
had 12 points, knip put
in seven and Cosman
added five.
All in all the team
played well on the
weekend said O'Rourke
and added all players
are showing some
improvements.

The locals
dominated their
opponents in the
tournament.
In the first
game Exeter
met an
Etobicoke team.
Rachel
Heywood start-
ed the scoring
only eight sec-
onds in, snag-
ging a pass from
Amanda
Hodgert.
Hodgert put
the locals ahead
2-1 midway
through the first
on a unassisted
effort, but
Etobicoke took
the lead before
the end of the
first.
Into the sec-
ond half fired
up, shutting
down the oppo-
nents' attack.
Amanda
Verbeke scored
a hat -trick with
Riley Jones and
Rachelle Keys
assisting.
Hodgert man-
aged two more
with Shelby
Heywood assist-
ing to round out
the score at 6-3.
Aveleigh
Keller and
Candace Powe
shared the win
in net for
Exeter.
In Exeter's
second game
against
Richmond Hill,
offence was the
main part of the
game in a 12-1
win.
Scoring for
the locals were
Rachel
Heywood and
Hodgert each
with three goals.
Amanda
Verbeke had
two goals, while
Annen, Shelby
Heywood,
Jones, Powe
each recorded
at least one
assist, with
Keller and Powe
getting three
each.
In game three
Rachelle Keys
and Jones found
themselves
lonely in net for
Exeter in this
15-0 win.
