EXETER — Despite being behind
in both their games on the weekend,
the Exeter Hawks came away with
three of four points as they close in
on the playoffs.
Exeter coach and general manag-
er Dale Howard said he was pleased
with the results, since the Hawks
were again playing with a short -
bench due to injuries,.
The Hawks were at home against
Lucan Friday night, which was com-
ing off a 5-4 overtime loss against
West Lorne Jan. 18.
Exeter was down 2-0 six minutes
into the game on goals from Lucan's
Aaron Whitcomb and Trevor
Medeiros.
But a goal from Justin Young in
the second period got the Hawks
back within one before firing a pair
in the third period from Troy Elder
and Jamie Wolfe to salvage a 3-3
tie.
Medeiros added his second of the
game in the third to complete the
offence for Lucan who were outshot
50-27 by the Hawks.
Elder also had an assist for the
Hawks, with Craig Masse, Nesbitt
and Josh Liddle also collecting
points.
Medeiros added an assist to go
with his two goals with other points
coming from Jeff Silver, Craig
Enwright and Kyle Roth.
Sunday night North Middlesex
was in town and the Hawks were
down 3-2 at the end of the first, but
rebounded for an 8-4 win.
Howard said he was forced to pull
goalie Jordan Thompson at the end
of the first after three goals were
scored.
"He was fighting the puck...we
thought we'd better change. It's the
first time I've had to do it this
year...I didn't enjoy it."
Goals from Liddle and Wolfe kept
the Hawks close before they tied it
in the second on goals from Justin
Young and Scott Davies.
Jason Stuckless took over in the
third period with a natural hat trick
before Davies capped the scoring
with his second to cap the win.
Tony Regier, returning from a one
game suspension, played "a hell of a
game," said Howard, with three
assists.
Howard also noted Masse, who
played on a bad leg against the Star.
"If we had a full lineup, he probably
would have been out. But Craig is a
real leader."
The Hawks have one game this
weekend when Mt. Brydges visits
Friday night at 8:30 p.m. which will
be Exeter Public School night at the
Rec Centre.
Exeter has made an addition to its
lineup, picking up Drew Bayliff a
centre who played high school hock-
ey in London.
Also on the weekend was the
league all star game with Howard
coach for the Yeck conference, with
the McConnell Conference winning
8-4.
