He would like a Big Brother to hang out with and play pool, watch movies, and go to demo derbies and car shows. This Little Brother is one of the many chil- dren waiting to be matched within a mentor- ing friendship. For information on our volunteer programs, call our office at 235-3307 or visit our website at www.shbbbs.on.ca Crediton W. I. laughing CREDITON— The regular monthly meeting of the Crediton Women's Institute was held Jan. 18 at the home of Irene Haugh. Haugh as program convener chaired the first part of the meeting. The motto was "laughter is the best med- icine". It protects us from heart attacks, benefits our general health and improves circulation. Suggestions from a researcher included, "laugh at yourself'. Tell a funny embarrassing story. Even the most embarrassing situation years from now will be a funny story. Start thinking about something funny that happened when you are feeling tense. This will ease the tension and help you forget your troubles at least temporarily. Also, find humour in seemingly ordinary, everyday things. Anything from funny road signs to a walking crow to a feeding squirrel can inspire a laugh. Watching a crow walk is hysterical and squirrels are natural comedians. Finally laugh with others. People laugh more often when in groups and with other people. It gives you per- mission to laugh. Funny stories were passed around and members had to act out the story. Lois Hodgins read a story written by her granddaughter Michelle Hodgins entitled "Amanda's Dream". President Alma Davey was in charge of the business meeting. Members voted to donate money to two pro- jects for the community. They are the SHDHS Forum for Young Canadians and to Allison Neeb for the SH Lakeshore Optimists Octagon Club. The roll call, "what makes you laugh?" was answered by 10 members and one guest. A delicious lunch was served by Irene Haugh and Ada Dietrich. Church news At Zion United Church Sunday morning, Rev. Sheila Macgregor's sermon was entitled "Getting Personal" and the children's message was "Jonah and the Whale". Drew Robertson read the scripture lessons. The regular weekly bible study session will be held Fri., Jan. 27 at 10 a.m. at the Exeter Villa. The same day the United Church Women's group meets in the afternoon beginning with a lunch at 1:30 p.m. Annual reports for 2005 will be available this coming Sunday and the annual meeting is set for Sun., Feb. 5 after the church service. PLAN 7-3-923 Craftsman -Style Home A spacious kitchen with a lay -out that will delight any cook, a display cabinet near the foyer closet and a games room over the double garage are a few of the features that make this handsome two-storey Craftsman -style home a winning design. On the ground floor, a covered veranda leads into a spacious double -height foyer, with a decorative window above and a convenient coat closet to the left. Directly ahead is the dining area, with the great room on the right and the kitchen to the left. The open plan means all three rooms enjoy access to a partially covered sundeck. The great room's bay window provides space for a conversational seating group. A built-in fireplace will be welcome on chilly evenings, and large windows overlook the sundeck and back garden. The kitchen's U-shaped counter configuration promises efficiency, while conviviality is assured by the semi -circular eating bar at one end of the work island. Natural light will flood through the window over the sink. Thanks to an outside door, a bench and a closet, the large laundry room adjacent to the kitchen can double as a mudroom. A covered area outside the door will provide protection in inclement weather. The double garage also has access to this covered area. At the front of the home, overlooking a courtyard, is a study. Adjacent to the staircase is a handy powder room. Upstairs, looking out on the back garden, is the master suite — here, the designer clearly had a private oasis in mind. In the roomy ensuite, a soaker tub with a tile surround occupies one corner, taking advantage of windows on both walls. There's a double vanity and a glassed -in shower stall. Opposite the generous walk-in closet are built-in shelves. Two more bedrooms on the upper floor share a bathroom. The second bedroom features a partially vaulted ceiling and a window seat. A linen closet is nearby, along with a storage cupboard. The large games room also has a partially vaulted ceiling. Built over the garage, it could serve as a fairly soundproof music room or yoga studio. The exterior features graceful arched windows and a stucco facade with cut -stone accents. Decorative quoins on the upper storey add to the charm. The garage doors are staggered. Plans include an unfinished basement. This home is 44 feet wide and 54 feet deep for a total of 2,839 square feet of living space. Plans for design 7-3-923 are available for $712 (set of 5), $808 (set of 8) and $869 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $20.00 Priority Post charge within B.C. or $40.00 outside of B.C. Please add 7% G.S.T. or 15% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and Priority charges. The NEW 38th Edition of the Home Plan Catalogue containing over 300 plans is available for $13.50 (includes taxes, postage and handling).
