Join the the Alzheimer's Walk for Memories' next Saturday By Carmel Sweeney ZURICH CORRESPONDENT ZURICH - Pearl -Ann and Mahlon Martin of RR 1, Bayfield, her sister, Mary - Lou Erb and Donna O'Brien both of Zurich have returned from a month vacation in Manley, Australia where it is now summer for them. Pearl -Aim and Mahlon stayed with their daughter Tracey and Donna stayed with her son Brent, both children live and work in Australia. They enjoyed seeing many places of interest. Congratulations to Rob and Christa Ducharme on the arrival of their baby girl, "Rachel Lynn" born on Jan. 12. This being the fifth grandchild for Wayne and Bonnie Keller of RR2, Zurich. Congratulations to all the skaters from both the Zurich and Exeter clubs who took part in the Great Lakes Competition held in Windsor last weekend. Many of the girls came home with medals in their flights. I also had the chance to go to Windsor to visit my mother (Jeanne Bedard), who is now a resident at the Victoria Manor. It also gave me a chance to visit my sisters Theresa, who has now returned home to Nova Scotia and Carol to Sarnia. Other sisters, Mary and Shirley live in Windsor. The next bus going to Hensall Bank of Montreal is Fri., Jan. 27 at 9:30 a.m. from the usual locations. Jeanne Timmerman of Calgary spent the past 10 days in Zurich visiting her parents, John and Bridget Groot and family mem- bers. A Yuk Yuk Comedy Show will be held at the Zurich Complex on Sat., Feb. 11 as a fundraiser for the arena. Tickets are now available at $15 a person at Rader's Variety, Erb's Country Kitchen and Kevin at the complex. Zurich Public School stu- dents will be going ice skating at the complex on Jan. 17 with various class- es going throughout the day. On Jan. 24 some stu- dents will be taking part in the Knights of Columbus Basketball Free -Throw Competition at St. Boniface School gym at 4 p.m. Parents are welcome to come out and watch. Harry and Mae Keep from Fergus visited her brother-in-law Earl Flaxbard last week. Earl's daughter Ruth Ann of London spent a few days with him also. Lewis and Marlene Gingerich along with their daughter Dorcas and hus- band Lloyd Tate of Barrie and their two children travelled to California by plane for two weeks to visit with their son, David and wife, Richelle Gingerich. Dale and Shelly Miller, Doug and Joanne Finlay and Mark and Shannon Crane all enjoyed a week's holiday in the Dominican Republic recently. Happy belated Birthday wishes to Derek Ducharme who was 21 on Jan. 10, and to Father John of St. Boniface on Jan. 26. and to Donna Klopp on Jan. 27. The Agricultural Society held their meetingwith a good turnout on Thurs., Jan. 12 at the township hall. Paul Klopp opened the business and Margaret Deichert read minutes of previous meetings. The 0.A.A.S. Convention will be held in Toronto at the Royal York Hotel from Feb. 16 to 18. The date for the next Zurich Fair is July 21, 22, and 23, 2006 with the theme, "Remember When" to go along with Zurich's 150th Anniversary. Committee reports were given and ideas were planned for this fair which sounds to be another good one. The next fair meeting is Thurs., March 2, 7 p.m. and more helpers are needed. Elections were held and thanks given to Paul Klopp for all his hard work over the past year. New presi- dent is Hilda Lansbergen, first vice-president, Joan Van Sligtenhorst, and sec- ond vice-president, Sylvia Neeb with secretary/trea- surer, being Margaret Deichert who we cannot replace. I am sure that without her we wouldn't have a fair. She does a lot of hard work throughout the year and has for many years. Irene Hoffman held a "Home Craft" meeting at her home on Jan. 17 to make changes to the prize list which were needed. The District Number Eight dinner and annual meeting will be at the Zurich Complex on Oct. 24. Meagan Sweeney was home form Waterloo for the weekend taking a break from studies at Wilfrid Laurier. Happy birthday wishes to Leanne Shanks who turned 21 years of age on Jan. 4. Also to Karl Regier, Senior and Karl Regier, Junior both on Jan. 11. This beautiful weather we are having is just great. But, I guess there are a lot of people waiting for snow to do winter activities.
