Non -smoking week
is now in full swing
ONTARIO — National Non -Smoking Week began
Sunday.
Research shows daily smoking occurs in 21 per
cent of Canadian homes with children under the
age of 12, regularly exposing over 800,000 children
to harmful toxins found in second-hand smoke.
The Lung Association has partnered up with the
Ministry of Health Promotion leading a program,
Youth Advocacy Training Institute
(YATI).
This provides members with extensive Slop
training sessions covering policy -related
tobacco control issues.
The province is also supporting the smomnimplementation of the Smoke -Free
Ontario legislation which will prohibit
smoking in public places and workplaces.
According to The Lung Association, 16,000 people
in Ontario will die from smoking every year, which
works out to 44 deaths a day.
For more information on lung health or smoking
cessation call The Lung Association at 1-888-566-
5864 or visit www.on.lung.ca
Singles crokinole
play Jan. 24
By Joan Beierling
VARNA CORRESPONDENT
VARNA - The Jan. 15
Sunday worship, at
Goshen United Church
opened with Marg
Robinson lighting the
Christ candle. The chil-
dren's time was aided by
Morgan Coclough's talk-
ing Elmo doll that among
other things says "Elmo
loves you". Little
Morgan kept a watchful
eye on
Pastor Elly
as she
spoke to the
children about our loving
God knowing our names.
The children recited the
following little poem for
the congregation: "if you
think God doesn't hear
you, then that is really a
shame. Not only does
God hear you, but, God
knows you by name".
Annie, Makailah
McBride and Madison
Louch all got to dip into
the goody bag, for know-
ing the answer to the
weekly Sunday School
question. Joyce Dowson
led the Responsive Psalm
of the day and Pastor
Elly spoke of God's call
not being limited to min-
isters and ministry. Just
prior to the offering, Joe
Laurie shared the Minute
for Mission, a report of
faith in action.
Thoughts and prayers
were offered for the fam-
ilies of Evelyn McBeath
and the congregation
was reminded of the
wedding of Bill Peck and
Michelle Burtch on Jan.
21 and the baptism of
Ethan Michael Hayter
next Sunday.
The Varna crokinole
club met last Tuesday
evening for
doubles
play. The
club was
pleased to welcome visi-
tors Don and Jungsoon
Hearn , son and daugh-
ter-in-law of Bill Hearn.
Don and Jungsoon live in
Korea and are visiting
Bill for awhile.
Couples were paired up
by drawing cards for
partners. Top four pairs
that won were Ivan
McClymont and Abe
Leitch with 35 points,

Bill Hearn with 31, Joe
Fulop and Don Hearn

PLAN H1-3-528 Family Home With its wide frontage and charming Arts -and -Crafts exterior, this three -bedroom -plus -den family home is equally
suitable for a large city lot or a spread in the country. The inviting raised entrance offers the opportunity to bring the landscaping right up to the front
door. Decorative double doors lead to a central open foyer with a view through to the living room and dining room at the rear. Sloping ceilings offer
design interest, and light floods through a skylight on the roof ridge. The living room and dining room share a comfortably spacious area, ideal for both
casual family times and formal entertaining. In the living room, a half -wall overlooks the stairs to the lower level, and picturesque windows on either
side of the fireplace open up the view to the back garden. The dining room boasts a convenient buffet and french doors that open to a large sundeck,
with steps down to the back garden. A pocket door provides access from the dining room to the expansive kitchen and breakfast room. This large,
informal area offers a practical and congenial space for day-to-day living, and the ample kitchen has room enough to encourage more than one cook to
help with family meals.ln the family room, a fireplace and entertainment wall will provide the focus for many enjoyable evenings. French doors open to
the sundeck, large enough for a barbecue, where the family can enjoy outdoor meals in the summertime. A powder room and laundry room are located
behind the kitchen. The double garage offers convenient access to the house, via the laundry room—where outdoor clothing can be stored—and
through to the kitchen. An optional bonus room above the garage would be ideal as a private guest -room, a games room or a studio, as desired. Lit by
dormer windows, it has the added convenience of an adjoining powder room. The main -floor master suite is self-contained, with its own private
balcony, five -piece ensuite with bayed window, his -and -hers closets and a linen cupboard. The second and third bedrooms, one with an attractive
window seat, share a three-piece bathroom. A study off the foyer completes the main -floor layout. The window seat provides a comfortable place to
curl up with a book. Alternatively, the study's location just off the front door makes it ideally situated for use as a home office. The exterior displays an
abundance of design flair, with stained-glass accents, picture -window mouldings, brick with corner quoins and horizontal siding. The single-entry
double garage enjoys plenty of natural light from windows that maintain the style of the residence. An unfinished basement is included with the plans.
Exterior walls feature 2 x 6 construction. The house is 60 feet, 8 inches wide and 54 feet, 10 inches deep with 2,251 square feet of living space.
Plans for design H1-3-528 are available for $636 (set of 5), $721(set of 8) and $775 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7 % Prov. Sales Tax. Also
