Speaking to Bluewater council Jan.9, Bartlett said the drain which was built 35 years ago has had problems for the last 10 years. It was investigated and two problems were found. Bartlett said tree roots as well as poor alignment of the drain were causing slow drainage and blowouts but the problems have been fixed. Bartlett said the drain is under- sized and will eventually have to be rebuilt or have a parallel drain built. He said in 1998 the problem was also investigated and owners felt the cost to rebuild the drain was too high so it was repaired. "I think we've solved the short term problem but there is still the long term problem, "said Bartlett. In other business chief building official Brad Dietrich presented his report to council on the Bluewater permit activity for 2005. Dietrich said there were 270 permits for a total of $14,411,615, compared to 322 permits in 2004 with a total of $17,613,069. Individually the Stanley West ward had 31 permits, with Stanley East having 41. Hay West had 51 permits and Hay East had 29. The ward of Bayfield granted 44 permits with Hensall having 15 and Zurich eight. In response to a request from public works manager Ross Fisher, council voted to send a let- ter to South Huron council asking that Bluewater be included in engineering and design proposals on the new water main to Exeter so it can also supply Hensall. Exeter boil water advisory lifted for schools involved By Nina Van Lieshout TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF EXETER — A boil water advi- sory issued in Exeter a week ago today was lifted Monday morning, according to South Huron manager of operations Dennis Hockey. The advisory did not affect the whole town but just three schools in Exeter. Those impact- ed were South Huron District High School, Exeter Public School and Relouw Day Care Centre. On the morn- ing of Jan. 11, South Huron water staff found a leak in the basement of the Exeter water tower during a routine inspec- tion. The level water in the tower had to be lowered to repair the leak. After the isola- tion of the tower, two well supplies were put on manual, maintaining the water pressure in the system while repairs were made. As a precau- tion during the water advisory students and staff did not drink or use the water for cook- ing or washing dishes. 'Do Not Drink the Water' signs were posted at all entrances, fountains were taken out of ser- vice and water bottles were handed out to staff and stu- dents.
