He and the 11 other directors from throughout Huron County have worked extensively to maintain our program by fundraising and keeping the citi- zens in Huron County aware of Crime Stoppers. The Board members put in countless hours and the success of our program is a tribute to them. We are very pleased to have Karen Mattucci of Exeter as one of our newer members as she has really helped our program move in the right direction." January is Crime Stoppers Month What Crime Stoppers Is NOT! Crime Stoppers is NOT a "rat" program. Crime Stoppers encourages the public to anonymously report information on crime. The program's main goal is to reduce inci- dents of crime in the community. Although Crime Stoppers is in the business of solving crimes, there is a long-range goal of crime prevention. A community with an effective and successful Crime Stoppers program acts as a deterrent for would-be criminals. Crime Stoppers is a "crime prevention" program that has the power to help solve any crime - not a "rat" program. Crime Stoppers exists for the betterment of the community they serve. Crime Stoppers in NOT a police program. Crime Stoppers is a non-profit charitable organization owned and operated by the community which combines the best efforts of the community, the media and the police in the ongoing battle against crime. Crime Stoppers works in conjunction with local investigative agencies, including local police departments, to help bring justice to unsolved incidents of crime. In addition a police officer is assigned to Crime Stoppers to help the civilian board of directors carry out the program. Although, when callers contact Crime Stoppers they are talking to a community program - not a police program! Crime Stoppers is NOT a way to seek revenge. A Crime Stoppers tip is not evidence and investigators must independently verify every tip before a tip can be acted on. The contents of a tip must be confirmed through an independent investigation. A Crime Stoppers tip is just the starting point of an investigation. People cannot be wrongly accused (by way of arrest or charge) because of a vengeful tip. If YOU have any information on crimi- nal activity contact CRIME STOP- PERS Of Huron County at 1 -800- 222 -TIPS (8477). All calls are confidential - callers never have to reveal their identity, deal directly with police or testify in court. Cash rewards are avail- able for information that leads ► to an arrest or charge. T /// Help solve crime in your community!
