The Municipality of South Huron is cleaning up property at a former gas bar and restaurant at the corner of
Highway 4 and Crediton Road to prepare it for sale. The property fell into the municipality's hands after the
property wasn't sold through the tax sale process, which occurred when tax arrears on the property went
into the third year after they were owed. South Huron chief administrative officer Larry Brown said work
done included removing the underground fuel storage tanks, the septic tank, an indoor hoist and testing the
soil for contaminants, which revealed contamination under the building. As a result, Brown said the building
will be demolished.A well on the property was also filled in. Brown estimated the work will cost $50,000, but
as of Monday the municipality was still seeking prices for the demolition. Once ready, the property will be
sold on the open market. (photo/Scott Nixon)
