• The days of serving alcohol to anyone at any
time are long gone, replaced by strict protocols
and procedures initiated by the provincial govern-
ment.
According to the Alcohol and Gaming
Commission of Ontario, all managers, servers of
alcohol and security staff must hold Smart Serve
certificates. Even the refreshment cart operator at
your local golf course needs Smart Serve before
handing over that icy, cold beer

• OPP have shut down a large marijuana grow-
ing operation in Huron East.
On March 4 officers executed a search warrant
at 43058 Centennial Road. The property is located
between Brucefield and Seaforth.
Officers searched a home and driving shed right
behind it. They seized 449 mature marijuana
plants, two kilos of processed marijuana and
cannabis resin, all valued at $483, 255.

• Bluewater council received a briefing from Sgt.
Peter Mason, support manager for the Huron OPP
on the 2005 Business Plan.
Mason described to council how costs are deter-
mined for each municipality.
He told council Huron County has 78 uniform
staff and six civilian support staff, reporting to
locations in Exeter, Seaforth, Clinton, Wingham,
Goderich with the administration centre on
Highway 21.

• With safe, clean water such a hot topic in the
post -Walkerton world, local residents can attend a
public meeting next week to hear information on
area water projects.
The meeting will be held March 31 at the new
community centre in Zurich at 7 p.m.
• OPP are probing a series of vehicle break-ins
during the night of March 16 in Exeter.
One of the first reported to police was a 1995
Ford Lincoln on Alexander Street. Someone
removed cash from the centre console of the
unlocked car.

• Four South Huron District High School students
will walk for Jesse's Journey.
All four are student council members — Grade
10 student Kyle Case, Grade 11 students
Samantha Ainge and Jesiqua Rapley and Grade 12
student Vicki Hartman will walk from Clandeboye
to London April 1.
The original Jesse's Journey was the first major
fundraising event for the Foundation for Gene and
Cell Therapy. Jesse's Journey actually turned into
two events, both based on walking and aimed at
fundraising and awareness.

Dec. 6 a 1994

was stolen from
a residence on

Street in Exeter.
Police also
learned a 1992
freightliner
truck valued at
$10,000 was
stolen but not
reported. Both
items were
recovered and
returned to the
owners by prop-
erty crime
investigators of
the Huron OPP.
On Dec. 22 a
20 -year-old
male of
Bluewater
Township was
arrested. He
faces two counts
of possession of
stolen property
obtained by
crime over
$5,000 and two
counts of

Dec. 24 at
approximately 2
a.m., Huron
OPP responded
to a home inva-
sion at
Kensington
Crescent in
South Huron.
Police
responded to an
incident in
which the victim
told officers that
four males had
invaded the res-
idence and
become violent
against the vic-
tim. Males
involved left the
residence and
were located by
members of the
Huron OPP
shortly after the
incident.
Arrested and
held in custody
for a bail hear-
ing on Dec. 28
at Goderich
Provincial Court
were a 45 -year-
old and 23 -
year -old male
from Lucan, a
23 -year-old
male from
Hensall and a
22 -year-old
male from
Exeter.
