The Hawks are two back of conference leading Lambeth. Wellesley leads the league with 42 points. Exeter coach and gen- eral manager Dale Howard said it was the type of game he expect- ed against the Bombers. With a 7-0 lead after two periods, Howard said the Hawks didn't want to embarrass the Bombers. "We didn't stop scor- ing, but we stopped cel ebrating...we wanted to show some class." Although Hawks goalie Jordan Thomson wasn't tested often, Howard said his goalie made several good saves early in the game before the Hawks took over. "This time we pretty much put our foot on the pedal and kept it there," said Howard. Thomson will play more games after the new year, according to Howard as the Hawks approach the playoffs. "That's what our team is all about, balanced scoring," said Howard who added the team was strong in both ends of the rink. "We make sure we take care of our end because we want to take care of our goal - tenders." Despite the win, Howard said it is the type of games coaches don't like playing. "The next oppo- nent is one of the top teams in the league and bad habits usu- ally develop with the bottom half of the league." Newest Hawk Fraser Jones is fitting in well with the team, accord- ing to Howard. "He's just getting bet- ter and better...he's doing better than we thought. "He can see the ice very well and he has the skills." Two goals 20 seconds apart in the first period put the Hawks in flight and they never looked back after Jason Stuckless and Snell scored at 12:56 and 12:30, respectively. Craig Masse put the Hawks up 3-0 with an unassisted effort before Craig Masse the period was over and Exeter put the game away in the sec- ond period with four more goals. A pair of goals from Jamie Wolfe extended the lead to 5-0 and the Hawks kept hitting the back of the net with a 7-0 lead by the end of the period on goals from Masse and Tim Bilcke. Joe Nesbitt and Snell completed the route in the third with Jordan Thomson picking up the shutout. Scott Davies had a pair of assists in the win as did Justin Young and Jeff Ackersville. Singles went to Ryan Abrams, Snell, Nesbitt, Troy Elder, Stuckless, Josh Liddle and Jeff Smale. The Hawks have one game this week when Thamesford visits Friday night at 8:30 p.m. Exeter will be in Lucan Dec. 28 at 7:45 p.m. and are at home for their final game of the year Dec. 28 against Lambeth at 8:30 p.m. Jets keep pace with shootout win over Bulls By Pat Bolen TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF LUCAN — A short- handed Lucan-Ilderton Jets team carved out a pair of one -goal victo- ries over the weekend to keep pace with the Shelburne Muskies for first in the league. The Jets need- ed overtime and a shootout to defeat Wingham 6-5 Friday night before edging Listowel 3-2 in Lucan. The Jets were up 2-0 after one period Friday night and 3-1 after the second period but Jets general manager Rob Andrews said the team fell asleep in the third and let the Bulls back in the game to tie it at five, forcing the overtime and the shootout. Lucan-Ilderton was paced by three goals from Steve Mathews with singles from Todd Hunt and Corey Smith. After neither team could score in overtime, sending it a shootout, Brad Yeo and Todd Hunt each scored with Dave Riddell not allowing a goal against for the Jets. Back in Lucan Saturday night, the Jets took another 1-0 lead on a goal from Scott Phillips and 3-1 after two with goals from Jason Wilson and Mark Phillips, before hanging on for the 3-2 win. Ste Math ve ews Andrews said the games were as close as the scores indicated and the remaining Jets' player stepped up for the team. "It's amazing how close this league is...there isn't a big dif- ference between first and eighth again like last year. On any given night, depending on what per- sonnel the teams have, they can be a first place team. So you have to have your best lineup every night out against the tops teams or you going to find yourself on the short end." Andrews added he feels the Jets are better than last year but every other team has also improved. "The whole league is getting better every Lucan-Ilderton Jet Jason Wilson is stopped in close against the Listowel Jets Saturday night in Lucan. Wilson had one goal in a 3-2 win for Lucan-Ilderton. (photo/Scott Nixon) each year. It's attract- ing a lot of people that have played good hock- ey and are now coming into this league to play." The Jets go back on the road for the next couple of weeks starting with a game in Clinton Friday night at 8:30 p.m Andrews said January will be a tough month for the team with visits to Milverton, Durham and Hensall as well as playing Lucknow.
