Below right, Olcen presents a book on behalf of the Zurich Quitter's Guild titled "Quincey and his Quilt" to new librarian of the Zurich Library SallyVan Doornik.The quilt along with other items will be on display at the NewYear's levee at Bluewater Community Centre Jan. 1 celebrating Zurich's 150th birthday.The event is between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m. (photos/submitted) ABCA unveils 60th anniversary logo On Dec. 7 the Ausable Bayfield Conservation Authority (ABCA) unveiled the logo and slogan for their 60th anniversary celebration.The slogan for the 2006, year long celebration is 'Rich in tradition, focused on the future.' (photo/Nina Van Lieshout) Sunday school leads third Sunday ofAdvent By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT THAMES ROAD - Helen Kady welcomed everyone to the third Sunday of Advent Sunday school Christmas service. A new Christmas Introit was sung, and everyone shook hands. Helen Kadey gave the announce- ments. Evelyn Johns gave a reading about the Advent wreath and the candles that Jayne Rowcliffe lit for hope, peace and joy. Brett Warwick read about the poinsettia while Sidney Rowcliffe held the plant up. Brett Warwick was the leader for Prayer of Confession in unison. Richard Johns gave a reading about Father de Brebeuf who wrote the words for the hymn "The Huron Carol - T'was In The Moon Of Wintertime", which everyone sang. Corey Smith read about St. Nicholas while Sidney held up a small Santa Clause. Nicole Pavkeje read the scripture, Luke 1:47-55. The Sunday school members sang "0 Little Christmas Candle" accompanied by Marilyn Vandenbussche and directed by Beth Cooper. Brett Warwick gave a reading about "Silent Night" and then everyone sang the hymn. Quinn Rush read about "St. Francis". Zachary Kadey and Scott Pavkeje received the offering with offertory prayer by Quinn Rush. Megan Pavkeje read The Twelve Days of Christmas. Zachary Kadey read The Christmas Tree, while Sidney held up a tiny Christmas tree. Everyone sang "Go Tell It On The Mountain". Zachary Kadey gave a reading, Candy Cane while Sidney and Mitchell Rowcliffe held up some large candy canes. Aimee Rush said the Benediction. After the service everyone went downstairs where they enjoyed pizza, cookies and beverage. Then Santa Claus arrived and gifts were handed out which brought the service (which was well done) to a close. Announcements The Sunday school chil- dren would like to thank Margaret Stewart, for helping them prepare their stories. Thank you to Beth Cooper and Marilyn Vandenbussche for their help with the anthem. Thank you to Sydney Rowcliffe and Justin Pym for their bulletin cover pictures. Everyone is welcome downstairs after the ser- vice for pizza and cookies. Many thanks to Les Cudmore who once again this year has kindly donated the Christmas tree at the front of the sanctuary. Joint Search Committee is pleased to report that they have started their search for a minister. If anyone from the congre- gation knows of any eligi- ble applicants, please contact Joyce Fulton so we can send a Joint Needs Assessment Report inviting them to apply to our vacant position. If anyone is wishing to donate to the South Huron Food Grains pro- ject, please have your donations to Murray Dawson or Larry Lynn by Dec. 22. Dec. 14 "Post" Bethlehem Walk meeting at 7:30 p.m. at Thames Rd - Elimville U.C. Dec. 24 Christmas Eve service and Communion starting at 7:30 p.m. with Dave Williams and Rev. Alun Thomas. Please come out and celebrate the birth of Christ at this service. (At the last coun- cil meeting a motion was passed stating the Sunday service on Christmas morning will be can- celled). Jan. 1 - Church service at 10 a.m. Personals Bill and Rhoda Rohde were on a bus trip on Thursday. It started from Exeter Legion with Harry THAMES ROAD NEWS Hardy of Lucan who was the tour guide, telling the history of different places from Exeter to Arva. It was a Cherry bus. The bus stopped beside Jumbo the elephant at St. Thomas and then to an old St. Thomas Anglican church built in the 1870's. Inside the church were pine box seats with doors on the end of the seats. We had lunch at Tim Horton's in St. Thomas. After lunch Bob Hamersley stepped on the bus stating there were eight Tim Horton's in St. Thomas. He talked about St. Thomas being the rail- way centre. They are restoring the Old Railway Station for 12 million. We passed the Railway Museum, the Alma College For Girls and the new Community Complex. The bus stopped at Meadow Lane Winery where the people went in. We had supper at New Sarum Restaurant. Then we went to Pinafore Park where everyone viewed the beautiful displays of coloured lights and dis- plays. We then travelled back home to Exeter. Thanks Harry Hardy for an interesting day and also to the bus driver Ken. Belated congratulations to Brian and Carisa Richardson on the birth of their son Cory Donald on November 24. A brother for Kinsley and congratu- lations to grandparents Gerald and Elsie Willis, Don and Janis Richardson and to great grandparents Peter and Helen Toonstra, Shirley Kirk, Ken and Dorothy Duncan and Clara Richardson. Doris Elford, Marjorie Johns, Bill and Rhoda Rohde and Helen Weston attended the Christmas Banquet of the Kirkton Horticulture and annual meeting at the K.W. Community Centre on Tuesday evening. A large crowd of people attended the Dairy Open House on Saturday for Kees and Marion Kemmere and family of their new dairy facility at 71560 McTaggart Line - the former Dennis Pym farm. Kinsmen donations in Hensall By Liz Sangster HENSALL CORRESPONDENT HENSALL - At the last regular meeting of the Kinsmen Club of Hensall, it was reported that Santa Claus will definitely be at the Hensall Arena on Dec. 17 at 1 p.m. The Hensall Kinsmen-Kinette annual Christmas dinner dance for the community was well -attended by over 280 customers, catered to by the Hensall Legion. The Kinsmen Club of Hensall is holding its annual Christmas cash draw on Dec. 17. Tickets are still available from Hensall Kinsmen members. The Kinsmen Club of Hensall made the fol- lowing charitable donations: $200 to the Hurricane Katrina Victims, $200 to the Hensall Legion TV Fund, $200 to the Hensall Tinker Tots, $200 to the Seaforth Marching Band, $50 to Prostate Cancer Research, $50 to the Children's Health Organization, $50 to the Leukemia Society, and $50 to the Easter Seals. At Carmel Presbyterian Church, the Christmas Eve service will begin at 7 p.m., everyone welcome. At Hensall United Church, the Christmas Eve service will begin at 7:30 p.m., everyone welcome.
