4-3 overtime loss for Hawks to Bulldogs
By Pat Bolen
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
EXETER — The Exeter
Hawks dropped a pair
of games on the week-
end with a 5-2 loss in
Exeter Friday night
against the West Lorne
Lakers before an over-
time loss to the Mt.
Brydges Bulldogs
Saturday night.
Friday night the
Hawks outshot the visi-
tors by a 39-22 margin
but came out on
the short end of
the score.
Exeter was
down 2-0 at the
end of the first
period and 4-0
in the second
before Jason
Stuckless got
them on the
board in the
dying seconds of
the period.
Exeter assis-
tant coach Deryk
Howard said the Hawks
have been playing well
lately and teams have
been pumped up to face
them.
"Mt. Brydges, we had
beaten them three times
before and they came
out hungry and they
played their best game
against us."
Dan Moir got the
Hawks close early in the
third period but it was
all they could get as the
Lakers put the
game away with
six minutes left
for the 5-2 win.
Scott had a
pair of assists in
the win with sin-
gles to Stuckless
and Nesbitt.
The Hawks
went 0-4 on the
power play and
killed off three
Lakers power
play chances.
Saturday in
Mt. Brydges the
Hawks' newest
player, Fraser
Jones, made an
immediate
impact with his
first goal as a
Hawk for a 1-1
tie after one.
Jones , who is
f r o m
Kincardine and
played with the
Bulldogs, made his
debut on the wing
Friday night and
Howard said he will
bring another power
forward style of play to
the Hawk's lineup.
"We were happy with
his play this weekend,"
said Howard.
"He uses his size very
well. He's a hard skater
and finishes his
checks."
The Hawks have also
lost a player with Greg
Thompson leav-
ing the team
due to personal
reasons.
Howard said it
was a disap-
pointment since
the coaches
were happy with
his production
on the ice and
Thompson fit in
Dan Moir
Da
McCu
rcy
tcheon
well with the
team.
The Hawks took a 3-1
lead in the second on
goals from Moir and
Jamie Wolfe but could-
n't hold the lead as the
Bulldogs cut the deficit
to 3-2 before the period
was over before tying it
in the third to force the
overtime.
The Hawks went
scoreless in three
power -play chances and
gave up one powerplay
goal on two Bulldogs
man advantages.
Picking up assists in
the loss were Justin
Young, Josh Liddle,
Davies, Chad Snell and
Craig Masse.
Howard said the
Hawks will work on
their power play in the
next couple of weeks to
show teams a different
look.
"When you get to this
point in the year, teams

are starting to figure
each other out...when
you're predictable
you're beatable."
Going to the all-star
game in Lucan Jan. 21
for the Hawks will be
Dan Moir and Darcy
McCutcheon who
Howard said has been a
solid veteran for the
team.
"Darcy's number one
attribute is he's very
responsible defensively.
He's not usually the guy
who's out there when
the red light goes on
behind us...and that is
why he's going this
year."
The Hawks have one
game this week when
Belmont is in town
Friday night at 8:30
p.m.
The Hawks are hav-
ing a food drive at the
Rec Centre Friday night
and are accepting dona-
tions of canned and dry
food.
Two wins for
Panther girls
EXETER — The South Huron District High
School girls hockey team was at home Dec. 8 for
a pair of games and came away with two wins.
Coach Heather Strano said the Panthers came
out slowly against Goderich District Collegiate
Institute (GDCI).
Missing four players, Strano said the Panthers
were ragged the whole game and were tied 0-0
going into the third period.
But the team came out hard in the third period
creating many scoring chances, although they
weren't able to convert them.
But with five minutes left the Panthers fired
three goals for a 3-0 win.
Scoring for South Huron were Kelly Cronyn with
two and Kristen Reschke with one.
Getting assists in the win were Jessica Bickell,
Meaghan Ellison, Brett Sararas and Michele
Weber.
Strano said Sam Regier played well in net and
Cronyn had an outstanding game.
In their second game of the day against St.
Mike's Strano said the Panthers played their best
game of the year with three strong periods for a
3-2 win.
St. Mike's had been undefeated coming into the
game and South Huron hadn't beat them in a
year. "It was a great game for all involved," said
Strano.
The Panthers received goals from Emily
Sararas, Bickell and Ellison in the win.
Getting assists were Kelly Cronyn and Emily
Sararas.
The Panthers are in the St. Thomas Aquinas
tournament Dec. 21-22 and are in Goderich Jan.
11 against GDCI and Madill.
The Precious Blood boys volleyball team captured the regional title at St.Anne's in Clinton Dec. 6, going unde-
feated in the seven team tournament. The team is front L-R:Arik McQuiggan, Kyle Veri, Jake Hern and Bas
