Christmas trees are moving off the lot

EXETER — It
is a busy time of
the year for Jeff
Taylor who runs
a Christmas tree
operation on his
farm on Kirkton
Road, two miles
east of Exeter.
His 1,000 trees
are mainly
Scotch Pine with
some Spruce
that are not fully
grown yet and
each year, he
replants 25 to
50 seedlings.
It is a cut -
your -own -tree
operation and
Taylor said he
doesn't precut
any in order not
to waste any
trees, although
he will cut trees
for customers.
All trees are
priced at $20
regardless of
size.
The trees were
planted nine
years ago by his
father as a col-
lege fund for
Taylor's kids.
Christmas tree
sales start at the
beginning of
December and
the big weekend
is usually two
weeks before
Christmas,
although Taylor
says he some-
times sees peo-
ple wait to buy
their trees until
three or four
days before
Christmas.
Taylor said he
sees many of the
same people
back every year
and it is usually
the kids who
pick out the
trees.
"They always
want the biggest
tree," says
Taylor. "It looks
small in the
field, but it's a
lot bigger in
your house."
