Exeter's Paul Dougherty, right, was the $500 winner
in this year's Exeter Lions Club Grey Cup Draw.
Dougherty won by having the card with the correct
final score. Other winners included Cam Eveland
(third quarter score, $150), John Thomson (halftime
score, $100) and Helen Hayley (first quarter score,
$50). Presenting the cheque to Dougherty is Grey
Cup committee chairperson Lorne Haugh, who said
this year's draw was a sellout, with 2,550 cards sold.
The proceeds will be used for the club's charitable
donations. (photo/Scott Nixon)

EXETER — Dec. 15 will
be an important day for
an Exeter resident when
he becomes a member of
the Canadian Forces.
Paul Denomme, 20, said
he is looking forward to
going overseas, "and
serving my country."
After completing his ini-
tial training which begins
Jan. 6 at the Canadian
Forces Leadership and
Recruit School (CFLRS) in
St. Jean -sur -Richelieu,
Que., just south of
Montreal, Denomme will
undergo further training
at Borden.
He will serve as a com-
bat engineer, which was
his first choice of three
possible trades; the oth-
ers were infantry and
armour.
As a combat engineer,
Denomme will have a
variety of jobs, including
construction of bridges,
buildings, roads and air-
ports, as well as detecting
and disposing of mines
and other explosives.
Joining the military is
something Denomme said
he has been thinking
about for the past two
years and he decided to
go through with it this
year.
Other members of his
family have also served in
the military, which is
something Denomme said
was a factor in his deci-
sion to join.
After applying in the
summer, he was
informed by the military
two weeks ago he had
been accepted
Denomme said he has
been told the first couple
of weeks of training will
be tough but says he
looks forward to it.
He is intending on mak-
ing the military a career
and is looking at future
