The Bureau has been a service of churches and the Children's Aid Society since 1967 and works to ensure there is food in every house- hold with children and Christmas gifts for every child. There are five dona- tion sites in the county and locally donations can be dropped off in Exeter at Precious Blood Roman Catholic Church at 200 Sanders St. W. The Bureaus need to receive all donations by Dec. 9 and gifts can be dropped off this week between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. Especially needed items are gifts for teenagers and organiz- ers also urge everyone to shop locally. Donations of cash are also welcome and are used to purchase food certificates and cloth- ing in sizes where donations are lacking. (photo/Pat Bolen) Stormwater proposal upsets residents By Nina Van Lieshout TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF SOUTH HURON — On Monday a heated public meet- ing was held to further discuss a proposed subdivision for Exeter. Many people in the full gallery of the Olde Towne Hall made clear that the subdivision which would include 80 dwelling units was not the issue but rather the stormwater management in the area which was a part of the draft conditions of the subdivision. The proposed subdivision development area is between Pryde and Rivers boulevards and Huron Street East. Different questions and concerns were raised about the stormwater management issue during the three- hour public meeting by several members of the audi- ence. The proposed subdivision includes a stormwater pond to control stormwater flows from the development and the farmland to the east. Concerns were raised about flood control. The pond will be a maximum of three meters deep and will be able to hold 5,500 cubic metres. Wayne DeLuca, who has appeared previously before council asked if the municipal engineer had been on site or if the stormwater management plan was done with- out checking out the site. Planner Clare Dodds and professional engineer Hendrix Shuurmans answered most questions but Dodds said she could not speak to that issue and wasn't absolutely sure either way. "Why would it be brought to council and then guess what after that bring in the engineer. I'm not an engi- neer but it's not rocket science," explained DeLuca. Another issue brought up was by Henny Parker who was worried that with the new stormwater manage- ment redoing the sidewalk by her home and building a swale, it might cause problems for her husband.
