Stormwater proposal upsets residents
By Nina Van Lieshout

SOUTH HURON — On Monday a heated public meet-
ing was held to further discuss a proposed subdivision
for Exeter.
Many people in the full gallery of the Olde Towne Hall
made clear that the subdivision which would include 80
dwelling units was not the issue but rather the
stormwater management in the area which was a part
of the draft conditions of the subdivision.
The proposed subdivision development area is
between Pryde and Rivers boulevards and Huron Street
East.
Different questions and concerns were raised about
the stormwater management issue during the three-
hour public meeting by several members of the audi-
ence.
The proposed subdivision includes a stormwater pond
to control stormwater flows from the development and
the farmland to the east.
Concerns were raised about flood control.
The pond will be a maximum of three meters deep
and will be able to hold 5,500 cubic metres.
Wayne DeLuca, who has appeared previously before
council asked if the municipal engineer had been on site
or if the stormwater management plan was done with-
out checking out the site.
Planner Clare Dodds and professional engineer
Hendrix Shuurmans answered most questions but
Dodds said she could not speak to that issue and wasn't
absolutely sure either way.
"Why would it be brought to council and then guess
what after that bring in the engineer. I'm not an engi-
neer but it's not rocket science," explained DeLuca.
Another issue brought up was by Henny Parker who
was worried that with the new stormwater manage-
ment redoing the sidewalk by her home and building a
swale, it might cause problems for her husband.
"My husband is in a wheelchair and I'd hate to see
him fall in that and what about my neighbour's chil-
