Come one, come all to "Getting the Star Straight"

THAMES ROAD — Church Service - Mr. Dave
Williams was in charge of the First Sunday of Advent,
church service on Sunday morning.
A Christmas Introit was sung and
everyone shook hands "Passing the
Peace". Dave gave the announcements.
Beth Cooper lit the 1st blue candle of hope in the
Advent Wreath, judith Parker spoke a few words and
both ladies gave a prayer.
The readings contained the Call to Worship and the
Gathering Prayer. The gathering hymn, "Come Thou
Long Expected Jesus" was sung.
A drama "At The Gates of the Temple" with Robert
Bray as Joseph and Kathy Bray as Mary and Dave
Willimas as the innkeeper taking part. Dave told the
children a story about "Anna Marie, her mother, Santa
Claus and "Wait For A King". The children's hymn, "A
Candle Is Burning" was sung.
Dave gave the Prayer of Confession and Words of
Assurance. Everyone read the Affirmation of Faith "A
New Creed" in unison. The choir sang "Every Valley
Shall Be Exalted" accompanied by Jean Hodgert on the
piano.
Psalm 80:1-7, 18, 19 was read responsively. Dave
Williams read scripture from Isaiah
64:1-9, and the title of his sermon was
"Patience, Lord, Patience". The Hymn
of Praise "Oh Lord How Shall I Meet You" was sung.
Joan Morgan and Joan Skinner received the offering
as well as the greeters. The closing hymn "Oh God Our
Help In Ages Past" was sung. Dave gave the
Commissioning and pronounced the Benediction.
Everyone sang the closing chorus.
Announcements
Sunday school dates: Dec. 4 - Christmas service
practice; Dec. 11 - Christmas service followed by lunch,
free-will offering.
Dec. 4 - White Gift Sunday. Please bring a gift for the

BetaAlpha's Christmas party Dec. 6 at 7 p.m.
Beta Alpha Master Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi held
their Nov. 22 meeting in the afternoon upstairs at
Hansen's. Jay Skillender and Mary Burton planned the
program. Skillender introduced Deb Campbell a home
economist with pork producers. She emphasized that
pork is a powerhouse of nutrition and contains many
essential nutrients to feed and nourish our bodies.
Improved production methods have resulted in leaner
cuts. Pork is full of flavour, tender and very versatile. A
chart was provided with up-to-date information about
the latest development in cuts and cooking methods.
Pork Picante was prepared, sampled by all and
declared delicious. Skillender thanked Campbell and
presented her with a plant.
President Bev Delbridge called the business meeting to
order. Minutes and treasurer's reports were given.
Brenda Hennessey stated that the Christmas party
would be held at the Masonic Hall on Dec. 6 with social
time at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Members are
reminded to bring their secret pal gifts and an item for
the Christmas Bureau.
Rosemary Schaefer stated that she had obtained tick-
ets to see South Pacific at the Avon Theatre in Strafford
on May 15. Refreshments were served by Skillender.
Saintsbury congregation welcomes Rev Ward and family

SAINTSBURY CORRESPONDENT
SAINSTBURY - On Nov. 19 a large crowd joined the
congregation when St. Patrick's welcomed The
Reverand William Ward who will now officiate and
preach once monthly for the service at Sainstbury
since The Rev. Stanley Joy's retirement Oct. 30.
We all welcome Mrs. Amy Ward and daughter Ellie.
Margaret Carroll, Caleb and Corbin Mac Gillivray and
Suzanne Davis assisted with the scripture readings.
Service closed with prayer.
A time of fellowship followed in the Racey Memorial
Hall. Katie -Scarlett MacGillivray was lay assistant for
Rev. Ward.
St. Patrick's celebrated Evening prayer Nov. 20 -
Advent 1 - with Bob and Heather MacGillivray leading
the service assisted by the young people of the congre-
gation.
Service closed with prayer. The church was decorat-
ed with small white lights, candles and gold and white
Chrismon symbols marking the first Sunday of Advent
and the Advent wreath.
Letter of thanks was read from Daily Bread program
to St. Patrick's for their donation.
The ladies from St. Patrick's A.C.W. have received
their invitation for Christmas buffet and program on
Tues., Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m. at Lucan Holy Trinity
Church. Guest speaker Mary Walls will speak about
her trip to South Africa and weather permitting the
ladies have planned to attend.
Margaret and Ron Caroll entertained grandchildren,
Michelle and Mitchell to lunch out and the Santa Claus
parade as well as Saturday overnight visitors.
Suzanne Davis spent Friday evening with sister and
brother in law, Linda and Con Foran at Centralia.
Sunday, Suzanne and family entertained Julie and
Evan for dinner.
Clete and MaryLou Dalton of London called on Hugh
and Hazel prior them leaving for a winter holiday in
Mexico and Texas.
Ralph, Joyce and Darren Simpson, Suzanne Davis,
Bob and Heather Corbin, Katie -Scarlett, Michael Davis
called on Hugh and Hazel on the weekend.
will be receiving gifts the week of Dec. 5 - 9; Come one
come all! - "Getting the Star Straight", an original play
by the Kippen Sunday school at 3:30 p.m. at St.
Andrew's United Church, Kippen. Donations of non-
perishable food items or gifts for the Christmas Bureau

council at 8:15 p.m. in the church basement.
Personals
Tammy Steinbach and Justin of Mitchell visited last
Monday with her cousins Karen Geiger, Kaylee and
Evan of Zurich and with her grandparents Bill and
Rhoda Rohde.
Helen Wasnidge of Exeter, Rev. Alun and Mrs.
Thomas and family of Kirkton, Bill and Rhoda Rhode
attended the memorial service for the late Ross Merrill
at St. Andrew's United Church Bayfield on Wednesday
afternoon. Rev. Thomas was the officiating minister
and his daughter Maria sang two solos.
The Bethlehem Walk that was held on Friday
evening at Kirkton Woodham Community Centre and
outside was a wonderful service. There were approxi-
mately 277+ people who attended.
There were 60 people attending the supper on
Sunday night at the church and the silent auction was
a great success with the money going to the Christian
Education Committee. The supper was put on by the
Finance Committee.
Stephen Central students Mimi Lather, Kayley Geberdt and Avery Jantzi were getting some help doing crime
scene investigation from South Huron District High School Student Jesiqua Rapley Nov. 22 during a Science
Quest day at SHDHS. Students from Stephen, Exeter Public and Zurich Public tried their hands at a variety of

Harpist and speaker Eduard Klassen of Stratford was
the special guest Sunday night at Exeter United
Church during an evening of hymns and Christmas
carols. Born in South America, Klassen has been play-
ing for 30 years and has performed his Paraguayan
