Relief for grains and oilseeds producers
OTTAWA - Almost $775
million in emergency federal
assistance will support the
Canadian grains and oilseeds
producers.
This announcement came
recently from Agriculture
and Agri -Food Minister Andy
Mitchell.
The funds will address the
severe economic hardship
producers are facing.
The emergency funds will
help sustain the sector while
federal, provincial and terri-
torial governments work
with the industry to imple-
ment long-term solutions to
address the root causes of
declining farm income in
Canada.
The value of grains and
oilseeds production has
decreased about $2 billion
this year in comparison with
the average over the past 10
years.
Earlier this year the gov-
ernment announced the
farm income program which
provided $439 million to
grains and oilseeds produc-
ers.
Combined with the $775
million announcement, the
government is providing
nearly $1.2 billion to address
the needs of the grains and
oilseeds sector.
