(photolsubmitted) Centralia UCW dinner Dec. 1 By Mary Peterson CENTRALIA CORRESPONDENT CENTRALIA - On Sun., Nov. 20, Mr. Bev Rabbets was wel- comed as guest lay minister at Centralia and Zion West United Churches. Mr. Rabbets opened the ser- vice with the Lighting of the Christ Candle and the Call to Worship. Everyone joined in the hymn "Welcome Happy Morning". Mr. Rabbets spoke with them about the importance of saying thanks to God as well as to the many people who provide assistance each day. Judy Mills accompanied the hymns on the piano as well as the choir for their anthem "Teach Me God to Wonder". Scripture readings included Psalm 46, Luke 4:1-15, and Psalm 17. During prayers, the congre- gation was asked to remem- ber those who are facing health and other challenges. Mr. Rabbets also brought greetings from Rev. Ray Hagerman. The closing hymn was "Pass Me Not 0 Gentle Saviour". Upcoming Events There are many special activities to remember in the next couple of months. Everyone is invited to the Bethlehem Walk which will be held Nov. 25 at the Kirkton-Woodham Community Centre beginning at 7:30 p.m. Communion and the first week of Advent will be cele- brated during worship on Sun., Nov. 27. On Nov. 28, a joint stewards meeting will be held at Centralia at 7:30 p.m. to dis- cuss the 2006 budget. Centralia UCW will hold their annual Christmas dinner on Dec. 1. Rob and Keiko Witmer, United Church Overseas Personnel in Japan, will attend the Zion UCW Christmas meal on Dec. 2 at Zion West United Church. White Gift Sunday will be held on Dec. 4. Gifts would be welcomed for the Huron County Children's Bureau to distribute to needy families throughout the area. Clandeboye W. I. holds fall dessert euchre By Muriel Lewis GRANTON CORRESPONDENT GRANTON - It was a fun expe- rience to attend the roast pork and sauerkraut supper, spon- sored by the Tavistock Men's Club, at the Tavistock Memorial Hall on Nov. 9. Very enjoyable and well organized. At the Granton -Wesley United Church on Sun., Nov. 13, lay pastor Paul Vollick led the service. Blake Foran lit the Christ Candle and Mary Waters read the story from the minute for mis- sions. The min- istry of music was 'Long before the Night'. The chil- dren's hymn was `Sing a Happy Hallelujah.' UCW Granton - Wesley UCW Unit 4 met at the church on Nov 2. Leader Marilyn Humphrey read Psalm 8 and the `Mystery of the Ages', followed by prayer. Business discus- sion included the upcoming beef supper and other events. Rilla Bakker gave a reading about the history of the Ninth Concession. Bettie Dann read that we don't earn God's grace, but receive it as a freely given gift. She also read a comical article about `They're coming for Thanksgiving, now how do we get them for Christmas.' The meeting was closed with the benediction, prior to lunch served by Rilla, and a social time was enjoyed. At St. Paul's Anglican Church in Kirkton on Sun., Nov. 13, Rev. Dalice Sim celebrated the Holy Eucharist and the message was about reaching out to others with God's love. George Burgin read the lessons. Remembrance Service The Canadian Legion Branch 540 from Lucan conducted the Remembrance Day service at the cenotaph in Granton on Nov. 11 at noon. Barbara Tuxford, poppy chair, led the program. Wreaths were laid by Muriel Lewis for Veteran's Affairs; Warden Tom McLaughlin for the Province of Ontario; Bill Smith for Legion Branch 540; Bettie Dann for WWII veterans; Kathy Kennedy for Korean Affairs; Cathie Westman for Granton -Wesley United Church; and by Josh Lambourn in memory of Wm. Lambourn. Lay pastor Paul Vollick spoke briefly, keeping with the Remembrance Day theme. Clandeboye WI Clandeboye Women's Institute held their fall dessert euchre on Tues., Nov. 9, at St. James Church hall, Clandeboye, with a good crowd in atten- dance. Prizes were awarded for high scores to Jim Davis and Edith Eaton, for lone hands to Marilyn Lee and Betty Guilboyle, and for low scores to Norah Wissel and Muriel Payne. Numerous draws were made for door prizes and Muriel Lewis had the birthday closest to the date.
