The Times Advocate, 2005-11-16, Page 35Wednesday,November 16, 2005 Exeter Times—Advocate 35 Bridal shower well attended at Thames Road By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT THAMES ROAD - About 60 people attended the bridal shower for Amy Hodgert bride - elect of January on Monday evening in the church base- ment. The base- ment was deco- rated with bales of hay, a saddle, black hats, wreaths, little trees with mini lit lights and mum flowers. Beth Cooper played "I Swear" as Erin Parsons brought Amy to the dec- orated chair on the platform. Laura Miller introduced the ladies on the platform. Beth Cooper sang "I Cross My Heart" accompanying herself on the piano. Sharon Passmore read "Recipe For A Married Life". Amanda Hodgert carried the many useful and beautiful gifts to the bride. After opening the gifts Amy replied and invited everyone to their recep- tion and dance at the Rec. Centre in Exeter in January. A delicious lunch was partaken which brought an enjoyable evening to a close. UCW Meeting The November meeting of the U.C.W. was held on Tuesday evening with about 50 ladies present. The U.C.W. enter- tained ladies from Cromarty, Zion and Kirkton. The meeting table had the auto- graphed cloth on it with can- dles, wreaths with poppies on them, mums and a plant. Sharon Lynn welcomed everyone and Ruth Anne Osgood, Jo- Anne Rowe, Nancy Smith, Agnes Bray and Sharon gave a Litany for the Call to Worship. Nancy Smith read Matthew 22:37-39. Ruth Anne Osgood gave a reading "Bread". Jo- Anne Rowe gave a reading "The Gift Of Love". Agnew Bray played the piano for Kay Cunnington, Beatrice Dawson, Doris Elford, Jean Hodgert, Sharon Lynn, Judith Parker, Grace Pym, Marilyn Vandenbussche to sing "I'll Go Where You Want Me To Go" and "Reach Out to Your Neighbour" which was enjoyed. A skit "Missions Ministry Promo" with Sharon Lynn as Kathy and Ruth Anne Osgood as Carly taking part. It was quite humorous. Agnes Bray played "Cannon in D" which was much enjoyed. Ruth Anne Osgood intro- duced Tina McBride of the Kippen area, she told of her trip to Dominican Republic in July. She showed pic- tures and told of her work in Haiti, told of the Voodoo Temple, Village Ascension, House Building, digging the water trench, Puerta Plata dump etc. It was very interesting and informative. Sharon Lynn thanked Tina and presented her with a gift and an enve- lope. The ladies sang "I The Lord Of Sea and Sky" Jo -Anne Rowe read "Why Remember" and we observed one minute of silence. Nancy Smith read "Why We Wear A Poppy." Ruth -Anne Osgood closed the meeting with prayer. Our president Carolyn Johns spoke a few words of appre- ciation to the program com- mittee and speaker. The lunch commit- tee comprised of Shirley Cooper, Ola Batten, Pat Ballantyne, Anne Kernick and Kay Cunnington pre- pared the lovely desserts and everyone enjoyed it and a beverage which brought an enjoyable evening to a close. Church Service Rev. Richard Bott of St. Marys U.C. exchanged pulpits with Dave Williams. The introit was sung and Rev. Bott lit the Christ Candle and welcomed everyone and people shook hands. Rev. Bott gave The Affirmation Of Faith "A New Creed" was read in unison. The choir sang "Reach Out To YOur Neighbour" accompanied by the organist Jean Hodgert Psalm 123 was read respon- sively. Rev. Bott read from Matthew 25:14- 30 and gave his Sunday message which was quite interesting. "Faith Of Our Fathers" was sung. Beatrice Dawson and Joan Morgan received the offering as well as being the greeters.
