A ribbon cutting officially declared the building open. The new building includes a picture window with a play area for the cats, lots of room for the new cages, a private office and a washer and dryer with a laundry sink."This building has high visibility with Tots of space for the cats and volunteers alike, and the cats have told us they are very happy here," stated shelter manager Kara Gosleigh. "Everyone is welcome to come in, say hello and visit with the cats who are staying with us until they find their loving forever homes." She added the dream of a new shelter could not have been reached without the success of the FirstAnnual Dinner Auction, which raised over $47,000.The Ontario SPCA and its branches do not receive any government funding and all money must be raised by the shelters and their volunteers.Auction chairperson Kate McKenzie thanked all those who donated, attended and worked on the event and empha- sized the fact that the success belongs to all who took part. Pictured from left at the ribbon cutting are SPCA inspector for Huron and Perth counties Carol VanderHeide,McKenzie, Bank of Montreal vice-president and 2006 auction title sponsor Shane Butcher and Gosleigh. Plans for the 2006 Animal House Dinner Auction are already under way.Anyone wanting more information can call McKenzie at 236-4044.The auction will be held June 9 at South Huron Rec Centre.
