Pastor EIIyVan Bergen ofVarna-Goshen United Church led the service, while Hensall Legion member Stewart Taylor gave a reading of John McCrae's "In Flanders Fields." (photos/Scott Nixon) Christmas potluck dinner and program Nov. 24 By Joan Beierline p.m. VARNA CORRESPONDENT Thurs., Nov. 24 the Varna U.C.W. have their Christmas potluck dinner and program with members, former members and community ladies present. Supper at 6 p.m. and takeouts will be sent out. Sun., Nov. 27 church will be in Goshen with the celebration of communion on the first Sunday of Advent. Sat., Nov. 26 and Sun., Nov. 27 "Angels Descending" celebrating the beginning of Advent at Goshen United Church with angels and tea from 1 - 4 p.m. each day. Angels are needed(all kinds), statues, ornaments , wall hangings etc. Contact Elly or sign up at church. Bill Taylor is still taking orders for amaryliss bulbs at $12 each. Help support Huntingtons by buying one. They also make great Christmas gifts. VARNA - The Stan Lee club met on Nov. 8 with 15 members present. President Charles Reid conducted the business. Bernice Reid gave a reading "Old Farmer's Advice". There is a Zone executive meeting on Thurs., Nov. 24 at the Betty Cardno Centre in Clinton. The Stan Lee Christmas party will be on Tues., Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. Please speak to Bill Taylor to let him know if you are going by Tues., Dec. 6. Charles Reid passed out several pamphlets sent by the Government. They give information on various con- cerns to everyone. High euchre winners were Norene Hayter and Bill Taylor. Consolation winners were Marjorie Stirling and Wes McBride. The Varna crokinole club met Tues., Nov. 8 for sin- gles play. There were 16 regular members there. Members were divided into two sides randomly. The top four from the A side were Ivan McClymont with 50 points, Conrad Sitter 47, Gerald Dearing 45 and Joan Beierling 41. Top four in Side B were Bob Russell with 57 points, Joe Fulop 51, Bill Hearn 46 and Gerry Fradette with 36. The club will meet Tues., Nov. 22 in the Varna church at 8 p.m. for doubles play. Church was in Varna on Sunday with Pastor Elly Van Bergen. Elly's childrens time was on "The Corner Piece" while her message was on "Investing Ourselves in God's Work". Sun., Nov. 20 church will be in Goshen Church. Sunday Nov. 20 help is needed for Christmas decorating at the Varna Church.
