Lucan baby born
in unusual spot
By Nina Van Lieshout
TIMES -ADVOCATE STAFF
LUCAN — "I couldn't sit in the
car, I was telling him to get me out
and give me a couple of minutes, I
knew the baby was coming."
Last Tuesday around six in the
morning a healthy, beautiful baby
girl came into this world.
Julie and her husband Al Rollings
of Lucan were heading to St.
Joseph's hospital in London for the
delivery of the newest addition of
their family.
"I couldn't stand or sit so when I
got out of the car all I could do was
go on all fours," says Julie.
Erin Raeanna Rollings was born
not much after that, on the side of
Highway 4, right near St. Patrick's
Church at the Roman Line.
After stopping the car, Al immedi-
ately went to the nearest home to
call 911.
"I ended up at Steve and Ann
Greb's home and they were very
helpful," says Al.
"I just said my wife's having a
baby and we're not going to make
it to the hospital," adds Al. "The
support from them was very nice,
they gave us blankets and really
helped us a lot with everything."
Although an ambulance had been
called, baby Erin just couldn't wait.
About 10 to 20 minutes after
leaving their Lucan home, 7'9
pound Erin was born.
The 911 operator helped guide Al
during the delivery of Erin.
"I was told to clear her airway
when she was born so I put my fin-
ger in her mouth and did that. Her
umbilical cord was over the back of
her neck so I took care of that and
than wrapped her in a blanket,"
says Al.
The birth of Erin happening so
quickly was not expected by the
Rollings.
"She was two days early but I did-
n't think it to happen like that,"
says Julie.
Their other daughter, two-year-
old Emily was late and stubborn,
according to the Rollings.
"I was in birth for 10 hours with
her so Erin came as a big sur-
prise," adds Julie.
Maybe it was meant to be that
Erin was born on Nov. 1, since a lot
of the Rollings family members
