Livestock tracking &
tracing receives funds
OTTAWA — $1.7 million will help support livestock
tracking and tracing in Canada.
That announcement came from Agriculture and Agri -
Food Canada Minister Andy Mitchell recently.
The funding will support the Canadian Cattle
Identification Agency (CCIA).
It is a not-for-profit, industry -led organization incorpo-
rated to establish a national cattle, bison and sheep
identification program.
Improvements will be made to the CCIA's database
that houses information including farm of origin and
date of birth of animals like cattle, sheep and bison.
All cattle in Canada require the CCIA approved ear
tags containing a unique identification number from this
national database.
The number allows for trace back to the farm origin
as well as the voluntary age verification of animals.
"This $1.7 million will help the CCIA build on what it
has already achieved in putting an effective tracking
and tracing system for Canadian cattle," says Mitchell.
The funding is a part of a $488 million investment
announced last year to reposition the livestock industry.

All standard equipment. And of course,
it's available in all -wheel drive.
IT'S A COMFORTABLE PLACE TO BE.
None of that really means anything if you're
not comfortable. So every Escape XLT
comes with a power -adjust driver's seat,
air conditioning, a six -disc CD changer,
