The Times Advocate, 2005-11-02, Page 11Wednesday,November 2, 2005 Exeter Times -Advocate 11 Kirkton United Church hosting evening of gospel and Christmas melodies By Rhoda Rohde THAMES ROAD CORRESPONDENT THAMES ROAD - Mr. Dave Williams was in charge of the 24th Sunday after Pentecost church service on Sunday morning. The Introit was sung and Williams lit the Christ Candle and gave words of welcome, and everyone shook hands. Williams gave the announcements and led in the Call to Worship responsively and the Gathering Prayer in unison. The Gathering Hymn "Come Let Us Sing Of A Wonderful Love" was sung. Williams gave the Prayer of Confession and Words of Assurance. The affirmation of faith "A New Creed" was read in unison. Everyone sang the chil- dren's hymn "God of the Sparrow". Williams told the children's story. "How Do We Share?" The choir sang "One by One" accompanied by the organist Marilyn Vandenbusche. Psalm 107:1-9, 33-37. Parts 1 and 4 were read responsively. Williams read from Matthew 23:1-12 and the title of his message was "Check Your Egos at the Door". The hymn of praise "Take My Life and Let it Be" was sung. Lorne Ballantyne and Fred Delbridge received the offering as well as being the greeters. The closing hymn "Amazing Grace" was sung and Williams gave the Commissioning and pronounced the Benediction. Everyone sang the closing chorus. Announcements Don't forget the article for the Food Bank next Sunday. The committee meetings are to meet this Wed., Nov. 2 at 7 p.m. and the council meeting at 8:15 p.m. in the church basement. Sunday School Dates: Nov. 6, 27, Dec. 4 - Christmas Service practise, Dec. 11 - Christmas Service followed by lunch, free-will offering. Pending Council's approval of the Joint Need Assessment Report, a congregational meeting is called for Nov. 13 following the church service. The purpose of this meeting is for the congregation to approve the Joint Need Assessment Report and to name members to the Joint Search Committee. Oct. 31 - Volunteers are needed for the "Out of the POLICE BRIEF Officer injured in Exeter EXETER — Last Oct. 7 two officers were providing security for a Buck and Doe event at the community centre in Exeter. A citizen brought to the police atten- tion a disturbance escalating outside the front doors. A couple was arguing and were immediately separated. Officers were dealing with many people and a warning was issued to a male. The male was angry and yelling profanity. At one point an officer came into contact with the male. The officer attempted to arrest the male who resisted resulting in the second officer becoming involved. Eventually the man was subdued with one officer receiving slight injuries in the process. A 20 - year -old male of Exeter is charged with causing a dis- turbance, assaulting a police officer and resisting arrest. Some 20 people from Thames Road-Elimville Church attended the Community of Local Churches at Woodham Church on Sunday evening. Many people from this area attended the buck and doe party for Barry Parsons and Amy Hodgert on Saturday evening at South Huron Rec. Centre. Bill and Rhoda Rohde were among those who went on the Horticulture bus trip on Wednesday with the Canadian Coaches Ltd. Kitchener to Terra Green Houses, had lunch at Denninger's Foods of the World, Hamilton, saw the Mum Show at Gage Park, the Christmas Tree Farm. The bus driver took us on a lot of back roads where we saw beautiful scenery of coloured trees.
